Kelly vs Hopkins or Margo vs Mosley? Both were aging future Hall of Famers who had to win, or go home for good, and both put on a timeless performance. But was it worth the risk? Sure a ko/tko of either of these men would have put two of boxings hottest fighters in Hall of Fame consideration themselves, but ended up hurting their careers in the process.
both fights were basically considered tune-ups Margarito was staying active for a Cotto rematch and Pavlik chasing a fight with Calzaghe. as a result Margarito's career is now ruined and Pavlik's career has taken 2 giant steps back. Id say Hopkins was the more riskier one because Pavlik never fought someone as defensive as him, whilist Margarito takes alot of joy in fighting come forward fighters like Mosley but that it just back fired/
I think it would have been very foolish to consider Hopkins a tuneup for anyone. I think both men looked very beatable in their previous fights and would have been a huge name on their resumes.
I can buy the tuneup though in the Marg case because his chin was considered uncrackable at the time. I think they greatly underestimated the speed Shane still had left which was very costly
RJJ vs DM This fight was very risky for RJJ and had he taken it we might have a lesser opinion of him. Lately, Haye vs Wlad. Haye was gonna get punished and he did the right thing by backing out and going after the weak, missing link.
Niether was a risk anybody who thought kelly would beat bhop or margo would beat mosley should delete there accounts.
