Have to be Walcott Moore and Louis (give u Louis was old). Rex Layne was no slouch (had like 25 KOs of 35 wins)and in his prime (wasn’t the same after that fight)Eddie Ross, Shkor also had some power.

Everyone was always impressed by Alis size, you're definitely not alone.
My pops used to drive around with him, and he'd be amazed at how in the winter he'd reach around from the passenger seat to wipe all the snow from the windshield.

They met right after the Berbick fight when he retired in 1981.
They became really good friends, travelling the country and the world together.
Them two and Herbert were the core group.
He helped with business related stuff and finances. Tons of amazing stories.

I wouldn't put the Louis that Rocky fought in there, his right hand was a thing of the past so,possibly Layne?
No super power punchers , which is my point when posters rave about Rocky's ,"great chin".

Sometimes the occasion can distort our impressions of a TV personality, but often enough we just don't realise how big or how small someone is until we meet them in person. I was working all morning the day of the Povetkin AJ weigh in but got there just as it was winding up and happened to catch Johnny Nelson coming out of the venue. I'd always thought he was a lean, skinny guy, but he was surprisingly huge and thickset. Very broad shoulders.

I also caught Tyson around 2012 and was shocked at how short he was.

I'm aware that Charles Barkley was 6'4.5" as was Jordan and Kobe. I actually meant players I had shared camp with and was measured with (barefoot), which as a lot of players. The standard practice for most height listings are to take the barefoot measurement, put the player in basketball shoes, and then add an inch. Also, when I stopped playing I used to help my coach from time to time in scouting new players and he had his eyes on Lebron James, who was a legit 6'6", but Lebron screwed up his college eligibility, but in the end it worked out great for Lebron, who went straight to the NBA and made a killing.

I never met Povetkin, but I did meet Ali a few times and he definitely wasn't a small man both in height and frame. In the late 90's I met him at the Academy Awards and he was over 6'3", but he had dress shoes on, so without the dress shoes he'd most likely would be 6'2.5 to 6'2.75". Foreman was there also and was a big man as well.

Also, my point was that guys with Marciano's height or close to it had managed to be successful years after he retired, but the difference between Rocky and the short guys that came after him is that many of them lacked the dedication to reach their full potential. Povetkin is a perfect example of a guy that had a lot of potential coming out of the amateurs, but failed to ever live up to his full potential. His conditioning was never consistent and in my opinion never that good and Povetkin was too lazy to come and train in America with Atlas. It showed when Povetkin fought Wlad, since Povetkin was completely unprepared and had no back plan when Wlad neutralized him with the jab and clinch. Marciano and plenty of great fighters before and after him were willing to make the sacrifices to be top dog.

Stiverne is another amateur that had a lot of potential when he turned pro, but like Povetkin let poor conditioning and laziness hold him back from reaching his full potential as a pro.

True, though I've always considered him something of a willowy guy.

Amazing to think he's still in great shape at 51.
