If u disagree fine, but Calzaghe shucked and jived his way to a subpar finish to his career!!! His greatest win being a one dimensional Kessler!!!:good

I think his best win is Hopkins, but his standing took a knock last night for sure.

That's what lack of depth does for you, if one or more of your top wins turn shitty (see Lacy) your resume gets hit up.

All Joe could do is beat the people in front of him - what they did after doesn't change what happened.

hehe - Calzaghe beat Hopkins by a mile - and Ward is nothing but a Hopkins clone - a prime Calzaghe would smash Ward without any problems - but well at least Calzaghe managed to beat Kessler without using headbuts and elbows...

Beat Hopkins by a mile? You seriously think Calzaghe won that fight?

Lets cut the double standard bullshitee. If Calzaghe had lost to Kessler, then todays result would make him look bad, but he didn't, he won 9 rounds to 3.

You could say Hopkins is the most overrated boxer on the planet after losing to chump Taylor twice, (who then gets KO'd in 3 of his next 4 fights). Or being dropped twice and drawing against bum Mercado. That, according to this post makes Hopkins resume look crap.

There is no double standard here.

The quality of the fighters Calzaghe beat will decide his standing in history. When he beat Kessler, he beat the fighter most of us considered his heir apparent. That's quite an achievment be it Louis over Walcott or Lewis over Vitali or whatever. Now, Kessler was a paper heir who proved nothing between Calzaghe's retirement and losing to Ward. That absolutely impacts his resume given that it was shallow to begin with.

Calzaghe's best or second best win (depending on how you see Hopkins) is now worth less than it was, and he had only a handful of top wins to begin with, and one of those (Lacy) has already been seriously compromised.

Well wait a few years and let's see what's happened to Ward and Kessler then... Calzaghe was a great fighter who for some reason didn't fight the best when he was supposed to, but you can still rate high b/c he showed good stuff against those that he did fight. History won't love Calzaghe (except the Welsh history books), but he will be noted for that which he did do beating good fighter and retiring with the 0, which in the commen eye is highly regarded. He was also the white guy who fought Hopkins with succes.

Disregard all that babling above, I think Calzaghe is a bit overrated and an akward fighter, who will be remembered best for his punching with the inside glove (some call it slapping), and his many years defending a not so important WBO belt at smw.

:good Joe should have fought Pavlik (Who was unbeaten at the time) and not took the **** out of Roy Jones!! Joe WAS a very good champion (Obviously, he beat everyone he fought!!) and he had the skills to cement his place as a true legend but, will he ever be considered an all-time great (Which is what he craves)? NO! He wanted to retire undefeated, which meant the rematch with Hopkins and fights with Pavlik and Dawson (All of which I wish he had took. And I would have fancied him to beat them all) were rejected. People say he was unlucky in that he wasn't around during the golden era of Hagler, Hearns, Leonard (Even Duran!) I say if he had been around in their day he would have fought at heavyweight or featherweight!!!

certainly not by a mile, he outworked him toward the end but Hopkins managed to force his fight/style on Calzag for much of the fight. I had it pretty even, it certainly warranted a rematch
