At this point in his career should Haye look to Steward?

David Haye is arguably the most exciting heavyweight prospect at the moment. This is the perfect time for him to enter a deleted Heavyweight division, but his crude defence and questionable chin will surely see him come unstuck- a brutal Roy Jones style KO is likely against the top heavies.

Is this the time for him to get a top trainer, possibly follow Lennox and hire Steward?

He and Adam Booth are not just trainer and boxer, there best mates, business partners. they have been together since Hayes amateur days. Why change a winning formula at the moment.

And Steward doesn't always have the best affect on fighters, look at Taylor.

Maybe in a few years time but not now!

Depends if his defence can improve. That is his glaring weakness, and Steward can help that. But as robpalmer said, Steward does not always have the best effect ie Hamed, Taylor.

It could be something that could try for a little while. I know Steward likes to work with big punchers so he would probably be interested.

No disrespect to Adam Booth, he has done a great job but now its time to get serious- Why wait til later? It makes good business sense not to get knocked out.

Ps Taylor and Naseem both had issues

To be fair i was thinking this the other day, steward is a great trainer for the right fighter and i think haye is that type of fighter.

I think Haye perfectly fits the mould of a Steward fighter like Hearns and Lennox. He is almost a cross between both.
Hiring Steward would elevate his status massively in the short term at least, well worth the slightly obscene amount that Steward charges.

Sure, let Steward "rebuild" Haye. Haye may be exciting now, but he won't be when Steward is done with him.

Steward could not work with Hamed for a few reasons, mainly that Hamed was a twat but also because he wanted to change what made Hamed great.

Haye has a style that is perfectly suited to bringing in simply changes and tweaks that Steward could do. Just like the improvements Lewis made under him so Haye would benefit hugely.

Having his best mate as his coach is no good. It is not a winning formula, Hayes power is his winning formula and yet he has not improved a damn thing about his defence or lacklustre spells in fights due to stamina etc since his pro debut and now.

He needs someone who will actually make him try using a guard for once and explain that mopping the floor with your lead left does not look particularly flash but it will get you KO'd.

no, not Steward. A trainer shouldn't have more than one top fighter in each weight class, and Steward already has Klitschko. What if Haye succeeds in the heavyweight division and gets a shot at Wlad?

Klitch only has a couple of yrs left at the top - Haye will not have a problem being in the same stable as he won't be competing for a belt for 18 months at least.
Then there are at least 26 different belts to choose from...

Good point. I didn't think about that.
