I think boxing fans really need to discuss what we as a fan base are going to consider to be a major world title and what we are not gonna consider. Like is a WBA “regular” champion a champion or not? Do we only count the “super WBA champions?” Do the WBC “franchise”. champions count?” Like seriously I’m a huge boxing fan yet I feel like I know less and less about the sport every day instead of knowing more.
No discussion needed. Just value what you think it's worth valuing. Secondary belts are a joke and no one should take them seriously as they are a ploy to bring in sanctioning fees and sell useless hardware.
What JOKER wrote is true. It's gotten to ridiculous levels with 'regular', 'franchise', and 'super' champs. More absurd than 4 belts. I still think The RING champ mean a lot. It's been around for 100 years and is respected more than the alphabets. After nearly 15 years, my 3000th post
Boxing should be operated by a monopoly like UFC. Single belt for each division. WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO are all sh*ts.
I consider the franchise champion the primary champion since they are better when appointed to the people who next win the WBC title.
WBA regular is like the NABF to me. There can’t be two “recognized” champions in the same rankings. Franchise and all that other stuff, hold no value whatsoever. I don’t have any interest of understanding their purpose as regards the boxing landscape. From what someone stated up top, fees and more fees. Absolutely bogus.
