B-Hop is a great fighter, but I think he actually started losing his physical abilities in his late thirties and has been able to perform at the top because of his knowledge, experience, savy, discipline and dedication. Losing your physical abilities does not necessarily mean being less of a fighter. If the fighter can fight smarter, take more calculated risks, (taking less chances and giving his opponents less openings) and pace himself (take control of the fight and make the opponent fight his fight) than he can neutralize his opponents strenghts which could very well be based on physical attributes more than skills. It's just my opinion and no matter how smart Hopkins is he's definitely not the average 40+ year old.

depends on the fighter's style, build, and lifestyle.

Hopkins has made a great change of style to suit his declining workrate but he is also a gym rat and looks after himself. He is a credit to the sport in that respect.

As has been mentioned accumulated punishment is a huge factor. With all else being equal a boxers overall performance declines at about age 33. For a boxer to perform at an elite level intot their late thirties and beyond is extemely rare . Shane Mosely is the best example currently boxing .

Very major factor concerning the topic of this thread. Marco Antonio Barrera was old at 29. There's age in birth years, then there's age in boxing years. Hell, boxing years are worse than dog years.

    physical prime about 26

overall prime in boxing you can't really determine it that easily it totally depends on the style and many other factors.

the top5 p4p fighters are all over 30. Two of those five are over 35 and one of them is over 40.

    It all depends.
There is no definite answer for this.

Physically I say at 24 it starts to decline slowly until around mid 30s where it declines steady . But the maturity, mental toughness, skill and other intangible factors that comes with experience more than makes up for it.

I hear you and you probably will get stronger, at 39 im stronger than ever but not as fast. Id say around 30 is when your speed and reflexes start to diminish a little, but its a slow process. Most of the time at least.
