At what point did Lewis overtake Holyfield and Tyson?

When he 'drew' with Holyfield.

Holy was considered number one and Lewis beat him pretty comprehensively. People then started to understand how good his record was already. Add the following year or two with the demolition of Grant, the easy KO of Botha and the excellent boxing display against Tua and there was no doubt as to his versatility, longevity and dominance.

 

Well, I held him in higher regard when he defeated Vitali...

 

I think that was the fight that the few remaining unanswered questions were answered. Did he have a chin? Could he win a real war? Could he win when his physical advantages were neutered? Could he win when on the slide (in this case, out-of-shape)?

In the Calzaghe NoW expose Calzaghe rants that he is number two in the ATG British ratings to Lewis. :twisted: He is nowhere near the Lion.

 

i think lewis went above them both when he beat Holyfield and unified the HW division, but i dont know when exactly Holyfield went above Tyson, although i'd agree that he should be.

I dont rate Lewis above Holyfield in an historical sense.

 

Lewis moved above Tyson and Holyfield by demonstrating the consistancy that they lacked throughout their careers. Lewis, Tyson and Holyfield, head to head, in their primes would be very tough to pick. I'd say perhaps that Holy was the best of the three at his finest but there was so little between them. Holy moved above Tyson trouncing Douglas, then an unbeaten prime Bowe, then a once beaten Tyson. Tyson lacked any wins of great note.

 

Tysons sheer ability and clearing out of a fractured division, as well as being the only man to stop Holmes and only man to beat Spinks (and in some fasion) pushes him into the latter half of the top ten IMO. Two graet wins they are.

Holyfield at about 6.

lewis-Seriously consisent, avenged both of his losses, best H2H from the 3 due to his intelligence and use of his size. I have him at no.3.

 

How could I forget the Spinks win atsch

 

Don't get me wrong, Spinks and Holmes were inactive leading up to those figths, but in recent times it seems Holmes did seemingly more training than he previously let on to.

Spinks may have been scared, but that says a lot about Tysons ability IMO. A top 40 ATG like Spinks shat himself at the prospect of fighting a kid the same age as me :rofl

 

What made Spinks a top 40 for you Fleaman?

 

His comp at light-heavy, his ability at that weight, the fact he beat a (lacklustre) undefeated ATG heavy in Holmes (although I think he lost the rematch handily) and his decent power evena t Heavy (battered Cooney; a lot of punches, but abttered him nonetheless)
