While we all take shots at these farcical local PPV & Khodar Nasser, can anyone take a long hard look at the patently ****en obvious ignorance & stupidity of the rest of the industry? I mean, we have seen how successful the privately owned & run UFC has been, but we say "Oh that's American,,,& it won't last. We have had years of watching & debating the "impending" failure of the Nasser circus & we're ready to say "Now that they are out of the picture, lets get back to boxing" Get back to what?!!! Squabbling about imports & drop outs & poor judging & refereeing? FFS, When are we going to wake up? Nasser has been running his privately owned entertainment package for a decade & has made a fortune, for himself,,, & anyone he chooses to let into the tent, goes away happy & richer. The recent announcment that the re-match with Garth is in the shute, has such a staggering purse for the virtually unkown Wood that it would blow Rocky Katsidis away. So how is it that this "Circus" can turn boxing into an entertainment that reaps a fortune without consideration to the player skills, while much more worthy fights go begging? Well IMO, it's not hard to figure out. A fighter is not running the show. He's proven, repeatedy, that people want the excitement that boxing provides, when it is cleverly promoted. Question is, will we ever weigh up what is more important, the squabbling sandbox, or the sleeping giant of organised lucrative boxing entertainment?:think
One only has to look on here and the amount of threads regarding those mentioned above... and this is a boxing forum! How can mug punters be expected to behave any better when "hardcore" fans love the **** too!
Talking it up or down here, or other places, is one thing Ippy. But it's the dills who actually PAY for it that ensure it continues. If there's not money left over (profit) after you pay all the bills, you have to make changes to the product (in this case the quality of the match-ups). Because people kept paying Boxa hand-over-fist for the crap they churned out it continued to be profitable, ensuring they continued with more of the same crap. Boxa - the great Aussie swindel.
There'd be plenty on here that go down the pub or buy it and don't admit it on here, even for something to watch on a Wednesday night. The coverage some guys get in here is a joke.
I've contributed $25 towards Anthony Mundine's career - half the price of the Green v Mundine PPV. His cards I've watched at the pub cost me the beer I bought only. ...and as you said, there are people here that pay for it and don't admit it.
wheres the swindle?havent watched a Boxa fight since Mundine-Geale.dont like it dont pay or go to your pub or club to watch it.cant blame Mundine or Green.why fight quality opponents when you're not good enough and people pay to see you fight cans.sad to say but people are seduced by the hype.Briggs fights with Adamek or Hardings fights with Andries are what i personally love about boxing.look where Briggs and Harding are now.
I agree with most of what you've written Stiffy. IMO some Boxa cards are worth a trip to the pub - paying nothing that is - and others no even the trip to the pub. Forget the $50 - not even a consideration mate. Where's the swindel you ask? Do you think the quality of the Boxa product actually matches the pre-match advertising for it? Are Boxa actually truthful in their advertising, and informing the public that Mundine is fighting an Argentinian taxi driver? Or do they instead pretend the opponent is some kind of formidable champion who'll provide a tough test, in their advertising? Likewise the pre-match advertsing for this Sonny Bill Williams PPV farce. Have you read the fanciful pre-match advertising claims about this bout? There's certainly nothing that even resemblences reality included. .....it's called false advertising mate.
but seriously if you were Khoder/Mundine you would do the same.you're not going to say''oh Anthony's next opponent is ****''same with Danny when he fought Siaca the promo had footage of him flooring Mundine in 2004 they're not gonna say''oh Siacas last fight was at 159lbs in Puerto Rican bathhouse and hes fighting at 185lbs and has no chance''.i remember reading through the Mundine-Woods RbR the next day and having a chuckle at 1 person in particular that illustrates my point i will track it down.
here it is CHB. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=273898&page=11 This content is protected 12-08-2010, 01:44 PM #159 shiner Re: Mundine vs Wood RBR although it was seriuosly; - the worst card ever - the worst fight ever - the worst commentators ever ........ it was the best $49.95 I have ever spent! :happy all you mundine nuthuggers GO **** YOURSELF!! :hi: RIP Cumdine!! :verysad now when you get idiots like Shiner who has probably bought every Mundine PPV since he towelled up Danny in the hope he gets KTFO is it any wonder why these **** cards continue to sell.:deal
Correct mate - BOXA aren't the only ones guilty of it - but nobody gives less value for money than they have in recent times.
