At what point do you consider that Sugar Ray Robinson cemented his legacy....

    .......as the all time greatest pound for pound boxer ever ?

    If there was any single bout where we could look back and say "Yes this was THE one" I'll stick my neck out and say that it was as soon as he regained the middleweight crown from Randy Turpin. If he'd seen out the Joey Maxim fight,that would definitely have laid down the claim.

    I know that he had some tremendous battles after coming out of retirement,winning and losing the crown a few times,so I realise this could influence some people's thinking.

    It's not really a single point, it's more the fact that people were consistently amazed by watching him to the point where the build up to one of his bouts was seen as a privelege nd an event

    B,very succint observation. Out of sight, out of mind . But for me,his
    greatness became apparent in 1943 at MSG, when he toyed with the past
    prime Henry Armstrong,his idol. And then in a few other bouts those days when he was a welterweight,sleek as a racehorse, and deadly as a cobra.
    RR those days HAD to be seen to be believed...

    That's when I'd loved to have got a time machine back to. The days when Robinson was a welterweight. Against Kid Gavilan and Tommy Bell.
