I got into a conversation with a friend of mine and he said he considered any boxer 160 and down small. I just want to get everyone's opinion on this. At what weight do you not consider boxers to be small men anymore?

Probably Welterweight. Most welters seem to be about average size.

Anything under Light Welterweight for me. A lot of lightweights even as far as their frame and walk-around weight...are pretty average. It's all that change in weigh-ins. Normal sized men dehydrate down to "small men" divisions.

i think it's funny when people lie about their height. i saw a video of randy couture next to de la hoya and randy was much shorter, even though he says he's 6'1.

Some middleweights are 180lbs in the ring...shredded. A couple of weeks after a fight 190...in decent shape at 200lbs. A 160lbs fighter is nothing like 160lb normal man. If you met Jermain Taylor when not in camp.. youde guess he was about 6'2 200>. A lot of ppl are surprised at the size of fighters when they meet them.

At 140, small fighters can still make the 141-147 range for welter. So I have it at 154.

That traditionally has been why Welter has always been such a tough division because the average man when stripped down to fighting weight would be about 10 - 10.5 stone

    This!

I look quite large for my weight. Most of the time I get about 165 pounds.

    Middleweight for me.

There are a few exceptions at 147 (naturally tall and rangy, and yet able to make weight)

But generally, they all seem a little on the short and stocky side. Or skinny and lean and smallish.

I'd say Middle or Super Middle.

I"d say 6ft, 170 is an average sized man who is fit.

While I'm sure Cotto, JMM or even Agustus would beat the daylights out of me, if I didn't know who they were I would laugh at them if they got in my face....then I'd get beat down severely.

Good example, in the news reports about Gatti's death, a bystander tried to break up the argument between Gatti and his wife. The guy said Gatti hit him five or six times before he knew it, and that he was knocked out.
