I agree. If he beats Bute then he moves to the top of the list resume wise. A fight with Dirrell would be interesting. Hope it happens in the near future
atsch So Bute who many claim hasnt beaten anyone would make him top of the list . How is Bute as good as Eubank? or undefeated Kessler? 21 SMW title defences WBO IBF WBC WBA SMW titles, - Kessler (WBC WBA undefeated champ) undefeated and not suffering double vision - Lacy (IBF undefeated champ) Americas next big thing and mini Tyson - Eubank one of the greatest SMWs ever and beaten at the same age as Kessler when Ward beat him and same age as Bute now - Mitchell 2 time WBA SMW champ and only ever beaten clearly at SMW by Calzaghe, many felt Mitchell had beaten Ottke - Reid who many felt beat Ottke, beat undefeated Magee now WBA int champ - Woodhall who fought Beyer to a close decision, beat future WBC SMW champ Catley - Veit (WBO int champ 45-1 only beaten by Calzaghe) who was only beaten by world champs or fighters who became and has a win over undefeated 27-0 Braehmer - Brewer former SMW champ - Bika who nearly beat Ward years later - Starie who beat undefeated future LHW champ Woods - Sheika when top 10 and coming off a win over G Johnson - Mkertchyan who became European SMW champ beating 26-0 world rated Chanet Thats going to take some beating - Kessler already beaten by Calzaghe - Froch who has only won vacant titles, one being one Calzaghe threw away, the other being one a Calzaghe victim threw away and never beaten a top SMW - Bika beaten clearer by Calzaghe - Abraham coming off 2 clear S6 losses and done nothing at SMW - Green beaten by old SMW journeyman Johnson Anyone who really thinks Wards on par and close to bettering Calzaghe is either very bias or plain stupid. Froch hasnt got a SMW as good as B Mitchell. Who do you think would win this match up. Jones vs Froch Froch who Ward beat or Jones who Calzaghe beat? People say Jones was shot but he was able to completely dominate and stop Lacy after Calzaghe, whilst J Taylor won clearly against Lacy but suffered a non counted KD. Taylor was giving Froch fits. Jones was alot faster, had a better workrate and is a harder hitter, he also has better skills and reflexes even if you say hes shot. I think that version of Jones would beat Froch but even if many agree, they will deny this as it blows alot of their points out of the water
Charles Brewer -Day job: Computer programmer -Brewer was a journeyman. By the time he fought Calzaghe he had lost 8 fights some of them by ko . -He had done nothing to deserve a shot at the wbo belt. -He never beat a world champion or even made one successful title defense. Reid was a journeyman. -Day job: Pornstar -He picked up the wbc strap by beating the talentless Nardiellio -Lost the belt in his next fight to a 42 year old binman called Malinga -Never made one successful title defense in his entire career -Did nothing to deserve a wbo shot after his loss to Malinga, unless you count the fact that he beat a journeyman -Would lose the fight after Calzaghe to another journeyman Liles was past prime at that point. He was boiling himself down to make the smw limit and looked lacklustre in the fights leading up to that bout. Lost the next fight after Mitchell to another journeyman then retired. Mitchell got koed by a guy that slaps in two rounds, was coming off a loss and when he came out of his retirement he lost fights to binmen Veit was a nobody. Its like me praising Jones for beating undefeated Glen Kelly and Byrant Brannon I agree It's the amount of punishment you take that decides were you are in your career. Kessler hadn't taken a lot post Calzaghe, which is why I say he was the same Kessler. Talking of injuries you know he had an injury leading up to the Calzaghe fight, which limited the amount of sparring he could do? I find it interesting that you dont mention that.
Calzaghes best wins at smw: Lacy, Eubank, Kessler Ward's best wins at smw: Froch, Kessler Kessler>Froch Lacy<Froch Eubank was way over the hill, so a win over a prime fighter like Bute would be classed as better than the Eubank win. Calzaghe's resume is pretty weak, which is why Ward will soon surpass it. You know Jones got koed in 50 seconds by Danny Green, right? Froch>>>Green Calzaghe beat Jones at lhw, so it bears no relevance here anyway
Joe at 1 Jones was good but his dominance was at 175 Ward he won a couple title fights, but he isnt even clear cut number 1 in his era, as long as Bute defends his belt and retains his 0 it reflects poorly on Ward who needs to make the fight other greats wanted all the belts and to unify and to beat the other title holders, Ward appears disinterested hell when there was a star at Joes weight he beat him like when he unified with Lacy and Kessler Jones took on Toney Ward must fight Bute
My mistake. The fact is that Brewer was still a journeyman Lonnie Beasly ko loss 1 Rafael Williams ko loss 6 Antwon Echols ko loss 3 Veit ko loss 9 Lonlenga lock ko loss 9 Best win: Graham who came out of a 5 year retirement and never beat anyone worth mentioning after it. Malinga loss ud 12 Silvio branco loss 12 Jeff Lacy ko loss 7 Froch ko loss 5 Best win: Nardiello, who lost to shot Benn During which fights did he not look good? He past the medicals while suffering from blurred vision? Wards win over Froch is just as good. Liles got dropped twice by Ballagou. Dropped three times by Mitchell, then got koed in his next fight. He was done. It's the quality of his opposition that he lost to that counts. If you are getting beat up by the likes of Hall and Grant you are not very good http://www.boxingnews24.com/2007/11/kessler-hand-injured-prior-to-calzaghe-bout/ This was also reported during the fight with Calzaghe Calzaghe's hand problems are exaggerated. How do you break your hands when you slap? I noticed his hand miraculously healed when Waren told him his career would be over if he pulled out of the Lacy fight
You think he bitched out? Would that apply to the Johnson fights as well, then? I recall it was reschedueled three times or so.
Easy Calzaghe Jones Ward Oh and Kessler said before and after the fight that claims of him having an injury was bull**** made up by the media, that his preparation went perfectly.
During the build up to the Lacy fight Calzaghe claimed he had to pull out due to hand injuries. Waren in an interview after the fight would tell the press that he said to Calzaghe if you pull out of this fight then your career is over. Calzaghe's hands healed on the spot and he went and threw over 1000 punches. You can check it out in the documentary called not your average Joe. Waren would then go on to state that Calzaghe started to believe in himself after the Lacy win. You don't stay in Britain and defend a semi worthless belt if you want to have a decent legacy. He pulled out of that fight on three occasions. Johnson and his promoter were pissed off. Only Calzaghe can say if he was really injured or not, but the Lacy story does raise questions.
