He's doing well and doing it at an earlier age compared to zaghe! So as it stands IMO, I think when Ward retire he's gonna be ranked higher than Cal!
the fight happened at 75 not 68.

i think people are devaluing Cal a bit, he beat a good fighter in Kessler, a great on the slide in Eubank and drew with Reid, which is more than beatin 'one decent fighter'. Hes not a nobody. And he had the mental qualities to stick around for 10 years, which shouldnt be sneezed at. Ward may as yet not show them qualities in the long run.

The flip side of it is that Calhuggers are claiming he did much more, when he didnt. Its obvious that Ward will on current form surpass Cal shortly, no denying it. Cal should have tried to do more when he was around and then he'd have a better legacy, even those couple of rather obvious defeats he'd haave got from prime hopkins and jones would have been better for him than fighting old versions of them. Thats why Ward's record 'on average ' is better than Cal's quality of opponents, Ward never fought hasbeens and then claimed they were legit defences.

A big no mans land in between the two - its time both sides gave some ground in the argument perhaps?

This is a poster trying to rate Ward and devalue Calzaghes achievements at the same time and trying to be clever in doing so.

How do you think it was a draw with Reid?
Ask yourself this. How could you not score rounds 2, 3, 4,7, 8 (

), 12 to Calzaghe? Remember Reid had a point deducted also.

I thought like 2 judges that Calzaghe was a clear winner and except for McCrory who scored a draw and later seemed to agree all of the other studio guest scored wide for Calzaghe including Mcguigan and Eubank. I also think damaged handed (damaged his hand in round 4) Calzaghe won and felt he won rounds 1, 9 (Reid did land the punch of the night in round 9 though) & 11.

    Good away win for Calzaghe

As for no mans land :patsch, read on

21 SMW title defences WBO IBF WBC WBA SMW titles,
    - Kessler (WBC WBA undefeated champ) undefeated and not suffering double vision
    - Lacy (IBF undefeated champ) Americas next big thing and mini Tyson
    - Eubank one of the greatest SMWs ever and beaten at the same age as Kessler when Ward beat him and same age as Bute now
    - Mitchell 2 time WBA SMW champ and only ever beaten clearly at SMW by Calzaghe, many felt Mitchell had beaten Ottke
    - Reid who many felt beat Ottke, beat undefeated Magee now WBA int champ
    - Woodhall who fought Beyer to a close decision, beat future WBC SMW champ Catley
    - Veit (WBO int champ 45-1 only beaten by Calzaghe) who was only beaten by world champs or fighters who became and has a win over undefeated 27-0 Braehmer
    - Brewer former SMW champ
    - Bika who nearly beat Ward years later
    - Starie who beat undefeated future LHW champ Woods
    - Sheika when top 10 and coming off a win over G Johnson
    - Mkertchyan who became European SMW champ beating 26-0 world rated Chanet

Thats going to take some beating

    - Kessler already beaten by Calzaghe
    - Froch who has only won vacant titles, one being one Calzaghe threw away, the other being one a Calzaghe victim threw away and never beaten a top SMW
    - Bika beaten clearer by Calzaghe
    - Abraham coming off 2 clear S6 losses and done nothing at SMW
    - Green beaten by old SMW journeyman Johnson

Anyone who really thinks Wards on par and close to bettering Calzaghe is either very bias or plain stupid.[/quote]

Ward has achieved more faster, no doubt. But people get their hopes up too fast. Ward is working with some dodgy people, and one loss or one duck and it will get tricky to put him above Slappy. Only fighter Slappy really ever ducked in his own division was a prime Jones, apart from that he took on what was there and won.

Ward has a tough piece of work ahead of him, but he might be the right person for it.

In titles Ward due to a competition has achieved more in titles, but he hasnt in the same amount of fights got a resume that has Eubank or Reid on it. Eubank is better than Kessler respectively and Reid above Froch

i had it a draw along with Mcrory and others - however I have no problem with anyone thinking it a SD either way, it was that close, I am sure you will agree. I have no idea how on earth you can call it a 'good win'. What planet are you on where a good win is a scraped decision? How exactly does one get a good win with a broken hand?

I certainly dont buy into the damaged hand excuse - if it was broken he'd have quit the fight, period.

I dont think that true, you are just reading my anti-Calzaghe arguments but ignoring my anti-Ward points. I've also said quite plainly that Ward may not yet show the qualities that Cal had, like mental disposition and longevity - thats plainly anti-Ward whether you choose to read it as so or not.

I have to say 'may' for Ward because I am commentnig on his future, whereas I can say pro facto with Cal because his career is in the past.
