Good morning mate, the old chestnut eh. Its sorta like who would have won out of a prime Carbine, Phar Lap or Tulloch over a mile and a half.

To be honest I don't really have a horse in this race but my old man used to reckon Fammo would have outpointed Lionel in a very close fight. Dad's logic was that Fammo faced Legra and Saldivar at featherweight who were better fighters than anyone Lionel beat above bantamweight and the old man thought Fammo had an edge on Lionel in the stamina department.

Its pretty amazing that we produced Griffo, Carruthers, Rose, Famechon and Fenech in the bantamweight and featherweight divisons eh.

    Cheers Mate.

Your old man goes along with my way of thinking too. Rose was an amazing counter puncher but Fammo offered too much movement and was too defensively savvy to get caught out too often with counters. Plus his left jab was so fast and persistent.

Still a great what if? though. Two of my favourites to watch. Lionels title win over Harada is still the best display I’ve seen by an Aussie boxer against someone that good. Carruthers destroying Toweel isn’t bad either.
