james had potential but aint made it. odlh is one of the greatest of this era, without a doubt. shane is just below and unlucky to get on the list but if ypu use the drugs excuse then roy shouldnt be on there.
You can add James Toney to my list. The man knocked out a prime, undefeated Michael Nunn and decisioned The Body Snatcher. That in addition to his outrageous longevity, and success up at Cruiserweight and admirable performances at Heavyweight, qualifies him in my estimation.
James Toney without a doubt. He may not have the best work ethic, but his tallent is once in a generation.
you put motherfking wlad up there and laugh at the mention of toney? lmfao, what a dumbass. 100 bucks says you've never seen toney below HW.
ATGs from the last 20 years or so: Pernell Whitaker Manny Pacquiao Roy Jones Jr Julio Cesar Chavez Evander Holyfield Lennox Lewis Bernard Hopkins Floyd Mayweather Jr Oscar De La Hoya Marco Antonio Barrera Erik Morales James Toney HOFers from the last 20 years or so: Ricardo Lopez Winky Wright Shane Mosley Juan Manuel Marquez Felix Trinidad Kostya Tszyu Johnny Tapia Joe Calzaghe Riddick Bowe * - obviously this list does not include the likes of Tyson, McCallum, Nelson, etc who had their most meaningful runs/wins in the 80s
Where do you guys think these fighters fit in: Michael Carbajal Dariusz Michalczewski Wladimir Klitschko Vitali Klitschko Buddy McGirt Jeff Fenech Jose Luis Castillo
michael carbajal johnny tapia azuma nelson odh felix trinidad juan manuel marquez ricardo lopez james toney roy jones bernard hopkins mab erick morales evander holifield lennox lewis jose louis castillo shane mosley julio cesar chavez floyd maywether kosta tyzu pernel whitaker lennox lewis
fenech was a near-great, i would argue mcgirt was as well. carbajal was merely good. dariusz above the k2 bros without a doubt. very competent pressure fighter
Wlad will be top ten if he dominates another few years impressively but he needs haye badly. vitali has quit his top fights and not had the depth to claim enough for atg. maybe hall of fame but its picky. castillo hall of fame fenech hall of fame dont know enough about the others to make coment
He's more versatile, more relaxed, far tougher, and much more imposing than his younger brother. He also doesn't fold under pressure and he's only lost twice. Once to Byrd when by injury and another time to an ATG in Lewis, but only when you could practically see his skull from a cut. Vitali would also hold his own far better against ATG's than Wlad. Wlad has too many issues with his chin and his confidence to be held in the same regard as Vitali. Wlad is also often stiff and uncomfortable, especially now with his so called new style, which is really another way of saying absolutely dedicated concentration and commitment in protecting his chin at all costs. When he throws uppercuts they are often wide, and leave himself wide open. He is basically limited at this point in his career to throwing 1-2's and the occasional hook. But this is also because he knows he can't take a punch, and he's hesitant to commit to something that might get him touched. Honestly, I think the best version of Wlad was the one against Sanders. He was faster and more agile than he is today, and was still a cerebral fighter. But do to his chin, which has failed him more than once, he lost that fight. And while Sanders had gained weight in his fight with Vitali, even if the one that showed up against Wlad, showed up against Vitali, the outcome would be the same. Vitali doesn't fold under pressure. He proved that in his fight against Lewis, even if he lost.
In order: Whitaker, Mayweather Jr., Pacquiao, Hopkins, Jones Jr., de la Hoya, Chavez, Calzaghe, Lewis, Calderon and then in the next tier: Mosley, Barrera, Morales, Marquez, Tszyu, Holyfield, and Bowe.
