Favouring Kane for the obvious reasons of a decent size, punch and aggression advantage. Plus the Kane, Lynch, Paterson linkage has always fascinated me which maybe why I’m subliminally biased.

Canto for a little guy and non puncher had a ridiculously long winning streak though. It’s a toss of a coin for me but I just think Kane was a beast and would get over the great Canto by a late stoppage.

Just did. Miguel Canto typically had more trouble with taller guys who liked to stand off and box, and use the jab. If you tried to beat him by blasting him out, he'd lead you around in circles. Gonzalez could crack. So could Avelar, Espenal, and Vargas. They may not have been quit the flame thrower that Kane was, but their power was legitimate. None could put a dent in Canto while he was at his best.

Kane probably could land with authority maybe a handful of times, but I think Canto at his best absorbs it and continues on with the task of outboxing him over 15.

Canto in a compelling, but clear UD15.

Canto in the lead for the first time, seven hours before it's called.

    Canto eliminated!

The tournament favourite has been eliminated by the huge punching Peter Kane who scraped home via a majority decision after a torrid fifteen rounds.

After bagging three of the first four rounds and landing some hard hooks to the body in the third that appeared to have Canto in trouble, the favourite took over, timing Canto repeatedly with his left hand through an absorbing five through eleven. At the bell for the twelfth, though, Canto was flashed by a singing Kane uppercut that appeared nothing more than a buzzing shot but that sent Canto to a natural corner looking for his stool after a count of seven - clearly hurt, Canto emerged for the thirteenth determined to spoil his way through the three minutes.

In the fourteenth, Canto seemed somewhat revived, but a huge, wild right hand barrelled him straight onto his back with a minute left on the clock; Canto needed all his skills and guile to get through the remainder of the round. In an all important fifteenth, Canto rallied to out-hit Kane on the inside with cute, shoe-shining punches, but Kane's relentlessness on attack and a big left on bell split the judges; scores of 142-142 and 143-142 twice eliminate Canto from the tournament in a narrow, contentious decision.

Kane advances by virtue of those two knockdowns.

A stunning shock in the first fight of the tournament as the first seed is eliminated by the sixteenth seed.
