Floyd. Look 20 title defenses is great for B-HOP. Moving up to 175 and taking the title against the best (at the time) is also great. You can even put BHOP in as one of the top 5 MW of all time. Titles in 2 different weight classes. Floyd is arguably the greatest of all time at 130. He has taken titles in 5 different weight classes at the official weights. He has only fought top 3 ranked guys in the divisiion and/or top 10 lb 4 lb in the world since fighting Judah; Floyd is a top 35 ATG already while BHOP is a top 50 ATG already.
Hopkins, although I wouldn't have either in the top 50. Mayweather should be able to clearly pass him up once their careers are over, because I don't expect much more from Hopkins at 47+ years of age.
I disagree. I think Floyd is way ahead of Hopkins in terms of all time rankings. His beat wins are against guys naturally bigger than him, while Hopkins best wins are against guys smaller than himself
That is true, Floyd definitely has time to strengthen his resume with a few key wins. As far as RJJ VS BHop......it's difficult. I think it's easy to say Hopkins achieved more, but Jones beat him and Toney so damn clearly, along with a slew of other solid wins, that I'm not sure the gap in depth of resume is big enough for Hopkins to overcome the fact he lost to him in their primes (not peaks, but primes). I can't at this point say.
Hopkins ducked the Jones Jr rematch for years and years. He ducked Calzaghe when offered the amount he demanded. He ducked Reggie Johnson. HE ducked Chad Dawson until he was forced into a contract to face Dawson, then he quit
Hopkins no doubts about it but Mayweather can overcome him if he keeps on fighting until he's 47 and at that level...
For those of you saying HOpkins look at every ATG ranking list available, Mayweather will be in every single top 50 while Hopkins will not be in most of them Hopkins beat up smaller no names Mayweather went up in weight and ohter than Marquez has hardly ever been the bigger man
He avoided the rematch with Roy Jones in 2002 when both were ranked p4p 1 & 2, sound familiar ?... difference is I blame fmj & pac equally or thereabouts for their fight not happening, I blame Hopkins more for the Jones fight not happening, he knew Roy would have put it on him again & his newly gained p4p status would have dropped back down almost to where it was pre Trinidad. For the record, neither deserve to be called great but IMO mayweather was/is the better boxer.
Floyd for me. I can't think of any category I'd rank Hopkins higher in when it comes to skill. Both great fighters but I think there's clear daylight between them.
And quit against Allen. And he was an absolute DISGRACE against Calzaghe. Cant believe his nuthuggers bring that fight up as some sort of testimony to his greatness. The middleweight division has been GARBAGE ever since Leonard v. Hagler. Hopkins was only CHAMPION at middle for a few fights. The rest were against Allen, Allen, Bo Lipsey, Bo James, Andrew Council, and according to Hopkins fans Echols is some sort of epic destroyer. Then as Champion talked a bunch of **** about Roy and Toney to instead fight Morrade Haakar and the ghost of William Joppy and then fool you all with that disgrace of a bout called De la Hoya vs. Hopkins which is as fishy as an aquarium.
since EVERY damn ATG comparison thread seems to have Floyds name on it, i'd say he ranks VERY HIGH :yep
