No Chuvalos, Oliver McCalls, Juan LaPortes, Jake LaMottas or whoever the **** gets mentioned every 15 minutes. I want a rarely if ever mentioned in threads discussing the iron men of the sport, and I want some details on em'. My contribution, Randy Smith. A cute, yet durable road warrior who was never stopped in 63 career contests. His resume itself is very impressive, he shared the ring with a lot of big talent, including the following - Chris Eubank Iran Barkley Frank Tate Michael Olajide Michael Nunn James Kinchen Don Lee (Huge puncher) Mike McCallum Victor Cordoba Bernard Hopkins Finding film on the guy is hard however... The only readily available footage of him floating around is the Hopkins and McCallum match-up I believe. Who've you got?
Joe Frazier Later in his career Foreman in his comeback Marvin Haglar.,Was never dropped as a pro Ray Leonard Holyfield Bowe..(except Vs Morisson) Mancini
Jose Luis Ramirez fought some murderous punchers and aside from a short-fight stoppage against a vastly more experienced Ruben Olivares when he was just 19 years old never flinched in 111 fights. And although it is sometimes acknowledged, Hector Camacho has an all-time chin.
Kevin Finnegan (only stopped on cuts - only "Bundled'over once by Tonna - spent the rest of the round punishing Tonna !) Murio Mina - Never Stopped (fought & Beat bob Foster amongst others, Greg Peralta, Stopped on cuts in early fight by pastrano, stopped early by Mina - other than That Little Greg got stopped very late by a WIP george foreman Guys like Bonavena and Lyle could not manage it. Jorge Amparo - only stopped a couple of times at end of career, in prime took all Benn, Barkley Nunnm Kitchen etc could throw at him. Armando Muniz / Marcos Villasana / Bennie Briscoe No doubt more will spring to mind I the real "Ïron"chin would be Eugene Criqui !?
Great mentions especially Wach and Peralta. Can't believe Wach ate all those shots from Wlad. Ive got to see more of Peralta, Ive only seen the Foreman fights which are impressive enough. Currently Danny Garcia. All time Iron Mike, Bowe, gotta give it up to Floyd great chin. Hopkins. Razor Ruddock. Despite the Lewis loss. JMM.
I'll toss in Henry Clark, as I can't find any evidence he was ever dropped. His opponents? Liston, Shavers 2X, Jeff Merritt 2X, Norton, Machen, Leotis, Mac Foster, Tiger Williams and Mercado among others. For punch resistance, his 50 bouts may be pithier than Chuvalo's 93. Although a fine boxer, Clark wasn't particularly hard to hit, and also unlike Chuvalo, most of his wins were over the distance. [Merritt II was an unusual outcome, where it seems Jeff simply got caught cold in the opening seconds. Even Henry said he got in a lucky hook ahead of Merritt's own hook.] Again, speaking of Chuvalo, I can't find any evidence that his great Canadian rival Bob Cleroux was ever floored in his 55 bouts. [Unlike Clark and Chuvalo, he was never stopped either.]
Javier Varguez, just based on the hellacious shots I saw him absorb without even blinking from Michael Carbajal and Ricardo Lopez.
Don't know if De La Hoya is mentioned often enough for his chin, but you all know his resume already and the only stoppages are the body shot from Hopkins and retiring against Pacquaio. If I'm not mistaken he was dropped only once, and that was early in his career vs valenzuela.
You are mistaken. He was also dropped by Giorgio Campanella and Ike Quartey. Oscar's chin was good, but far from Iron. Not in the same league of chins like Chavez.
