    Bob Foster
    Ezzard Charles
    Michael Spinks
    Dwight Qawi
    Archie Moore

    Could Schmeling run that gauntlet?

    Charles is tapping that.

I wonder if Spinks could match Max in the right-hand department?

I choose Bob Foster only because of punch, I choose him on an equal level with Artur Beterbiev, whom I already consider ATG.

Picking all of them except Foster, they’re stylistic nightmares for Schmeling, Qawi and Moore because they can get low to their right, take away the counter right and throw their own counters and they’re both great at closing the distance and Schmeling isn’t the most fleet of foot, so once they’ve taken that right away and closed the distance, Schmeling doesn’t have much over them, that counter right is redundant up close and the both shorten up their punches better and have quicker hands for my money.
Edit: Schmeling may be able to simply impose himself on Qawi thinking about it, but when Qawi was 190lbs, he actually weighed more than Schmeling so I’m doubtful.

Spinks and Charles because they can just use their length and not give Schmeling countering opportunities by using a long, versatile lead hand, simple, but effective boxing.

If they’re all supposed to show up at 175 lbs and he’s not then sure.

I think Charles is the only one who has a chance to beat him. None of the others IMO were close to being elite against strong heavyweight competition.

Max is another boxer who is vastly underrated around these parts ... he was a damn skilled prize fighter.

Moore was a top notch heavyweight contender who beat several good heavyweights. Spinks did defeat Larry Holmes and while Holmes was past his peak, lets not forget that being 7 years older, he defeated a prime Mercer and did well against a prime Holyfield. In fact, 42 year old Holmes did better vs Holyfield than a 30 year old Mike Tyson did.

Qawi really didn't campaign as a heavyweight, but I'd imagine that if he fought between 1930 and 1960, he'd have done like many of his peers and fought as both a light heavyweight and heavyweight. And I imagine that he'd have done well in both divisions.

No, Schmeling fights their heavyweight renditions.

I’d have to take Max over Foster. Foster always lost at heavyweight and Max was a fierce puncher in that division.

Charles likely outboxes Max for a decision but looks the worse of the two by the end of the fight.

    Spinks is 50/50

    Max beats Moore at heavyweight.
Max stops Quawi the come forward style suits Max and Quawi while fighting Holyfield in second fight when he began to allegedly juice couldnt take the power. Max had that power naturally and I think stops Quawi.

Who else REALLY noteworthy besides Valdez and Satterfield? I know he beat some people who were "ranked" but those rankings weren't exactly gospel writ seeing how the rankees' careers wound up.

Look, the Mongoose is on the short list of my favorite fighters who ever climbed into the ring on this planet, but he pretty much was ahead of his skis when he stepped up to heavyweight. Yes, he dropped Marciano, but he wound up getting the unholy merde pounded out of him for his troubles.

Yeah but the fact remains that Moore was undefeated at heavyweight by anyone other than 3 ATGs. And I could see all 3 of them possibly beating Schmeling.

I think that we should remember that Schmeling started as a LHW himself. I just don't see why guys like Charles, Spinks and Moore would not be competitive.

    Charles definitely beats him, IMO.

Max Schmeling beat Joe Louis, he could beat everyone on that list, but odds are someone would upset him.

Agree. I don't think he could go through that gauntlet undefeated. However, he could beat any one of them in 1 off fights.
