ATG list, 100 fighters?

How is Langford #4 while Johnson whipped dat azz and is #38?
also I noticed is Jones and Bhop are oddly high

 

Why would you call them oddly high?

One is a 4 division champion who was pound for pound the best fighter for almost 10 years. That's roughly 10% of boxing's existence.

The other set the record for most title defenses in the middleweight division while winning titles in other divisions. Even if he is a *****.

Though I agree with you about Langford and Johnson.

I have always though Langford has been overrated by the Classic crowd.

I still have him in my top 40. But you can't rank him over Wills, who owned him. He lost to Johnson, and never won a major title.

He didn't have a win over a fighter in my top 50 AT, so I don't see how he can be in the top 20, or even over Johnson.

you realize Langford fought from featherweight to heavyweight right???? and beat elite fighters from each class along the way........ yeah Johnson beat him but that was in Langfords early days at heavyweight and Langford in reality had no business fighting at heavyweight period due to his size....the fact that he was successful at heavyweight just adds to his greatness. No one in their right mind would rate Johnson ahead of Langford unless we're talking their accomplishments at heavy only.

317 fights!!!! great puncher also a great technical boxer. the man was one of the greatest ever bar none. Beat ATG Gans, ATG Ketchel, Schreck, Mcvee, Wills, Flynn, had a draw with Walcott for the welterweight title that he deserved to win, Young Peter Jackson, Joe Jeannette, ATG Philadelphia Jack O'Brien.

Johnson was great but he wasn't Langford!

 

ATG list should be endless. Then you label the various ATGs by whatever bracket they fit into-top 5,10, 50, 100, 500 whatever. How illogical is it, say you limit it to 100, to have guys listed as an ATG for so many years in the lower part, then you have to take them out of your list? Do their abilities rated as ATG before suddenly stop being ATG?

 

Joe Gans isn't in your top 50????....Langford was a beast from feather to heavy.....no one else in history has ever done what he's done and carried the power..... Pac X 100.

 

I don't mind Langford being higher but I do believe they should be closer. Sure Langford climbed many classes yet heavy is a beast of a class on its own.

Johnson whooped many of the same fighters and had less than a handful of defeats that went unavenged before he finally lost his title

also dropping names doesn't always help a fighter's resume- for example Wills he won like one fight out of like 15 or something I know he was going blind but its not really a good name to drop. I also don't think much of Flynn he's a FIREman for christsakes... fighters today get **** on for fighting policemen

 

why so much hate for Tito? shouldnt he be a top 50 fighter, dude looked invincible @154. so we give him a huge knock for climbing the divisions? @154 he wouldve beat mosley, forrest, margarito, williams, cotto and wright. but he took the challenge vs all time greats like X & Jones in much higher weights and thats why fans dont see what he did before losing.

 

For those who have a full list, did you guys really study everything or is it based on hearsay a lot? If you did study how much time did it took you to study the entire sport?

Am I happy with this list? Of course I'm not. But that allows me to watch even more boxing. I'm learning all the time, and the list changes endlessly.

Mine took about 40 man hours to do.

It is based on how many divisions where they the best fighter at and how long. How many other great fighters did they beat. And where did they rank in the pound for pound arena with their contempories.

Yes but what weight was he the man at? In any given year I can't find where Langford was the undisputed best at a weight class for any extended period of time.

To me that means something.

there was a reason behind this...... champions would not give him the time of day, it was a racist era dude. He only ever had one title bout and it was vs Walcott, it ended in a draw but by all accounts Langford beat him up, had him bleeding the whole fight and won every round aside form an even 1st. he coulda been the man at several weights....he beat the best lightheavyweight of the day in Philly Jack O'brien.... the best lightweight of the day in Joe Gans (although at 140)....not to mentiont he Walcott incidident....
