I don't rate Marco and especially Morales all that highly head to head. The more impressive thing abiut them to me is that they have hung around and been very good for a long, long time. I tend to see Morales as a back end of the top 200 kind of fighter. He's no better than someone like Shozo Saijo or Esparragoza.Which isnt an insult at all.
How much prime Fenech have you seen and what exactly makes you think so? Fenech was a MONSTER. I don't think Morales or Barrera punch hard enough to worry Fenech and basically, the only chance they'd have is if Jeff's dodgy hands play up. Even then I wouldn't be surprised if Fenech beat them. Fenech had incredible strength, incredible resolve, incredible stamina and work rate and underrated boxing skills too.
Hamed has not got hit with power from a guy like Nelson. If people like a past prime Kelley are dumping him on his ass I don't think he'd take too well to a shot from Azumah. Maybe he wouldn't stop him, (maybe he would) but I think he'd be rocking him consistently.
WTF Fenech was the Wayne McColough of his time, no way he beats Barrera/Morales/Hamed, not an easy fight for any of them, but no chance he beats them. For the record all beat Nelson at their best at 126 in tough fights, just too much skill for him.
One of the worst calls ever on the classic forum. Beyond embarrassing. atsch If you want to know the difference between Wayne McCullough and Jeff Fenech, view their respective fights against Daniel Zaragoza.
:huh Jeff Fenech the Wayne McCullough of his time? Not really alike, there are similarities but not enough to warrant a statement like that. Fenech would beat Barrera and Morales at 122 IMO.
Agreed with both statements. Fenech was a friggin' MONSTER at 122. Look at the way he completely crushed Payakaroon, who was a helluva fighter himself. He also completely dominated Zaragoza; when Morales beat an ancient Zaragoza in a life and death struggle it was considered one of his biggest achievements at 122, yet for Fenech it was just another day at the office. Barrera at 122 was outslugged twice by weak-chinned Jr. Jones, the kind of fighter that Fenech used to walk through in his prime.
Fenech was a little better but not by much, Wayne was jobbed against Zaragoza and rightfully should have been a 2 division champion, if he wasn't fighting Hamed and Morales he could have been a 3 division champ but ran into 2 ATGs and a robbery.
You mean the McCullough who was embarrassed by an ancient Zaragoza, who Fenech beat the **** out of back when he was in his prime??? atschatschatsch You mean the McCullough who was a flop above bantamweight, whereas Fenech was great through another two weight classes and arguably should've won a title in a fourth?? atsch
Wayne's fight with Zaragoza was a close one that could have gone either way. That McCullough was getting outboxed by an ancient Zaragoza for much of the early and middle rounds should tell you of the vast gulf between himself and Fenech. Fenech did not lose a 30 second stretch of the Zaragoza fight and dominated him with ease. The two are on totally different levels as far as ability goes. Fenech may have faded fast, but for a very short while he was an incredible fighter. At his best McCullough was good, but not anywhere close to Fenech at his best. It's an insult to Jeff to say otherwise PP.
Yep, Fenech stepped up to a fourth weight class and DEFINITELY beat Nelson, a great fighter in his own right. Nelson might have been feeling the effects of Malaria, but he probably threw 800 punches that fight, if not more, so he can't have been THAT sick. Fenech was simply THAT good.
I dont think Wayne was jobbed at all..It was essentially his hometown considering it was fought in Boston..He had a convincing last round and pretty much outhustled a tired Zaragoza late in the fight but he was legitimately frustrated pretty much the whole fight and as sweet said was clearly outboxed for much of the first 2/3.
McColough plain and simply beat Zaragoza and got jobbed, it was a robbery, any other verdict isnt worth discussing :nono Plus Zaragoza was a more experienced better schooled boxer in his later career, its not comparing like with like at all when you compare their performances. Its like saying Mercado is better than Pavlik based on performaces against Hopkins :nut Now Fenech is better than McColough, but he fights in a similar style and there isnt too much ability wise between them, simply he put he wouldn't beat Barrera/Hamed/Morales.
