I can't see Chavez losing to Fernandez, nor arguably losing to Jose Luis Ramirez.

Arguello had a tougher initiation into the sport, and consistently faced tough opponents, but Chavez has him for consistency - that much is pretty clear to me.

That said, Arguello, with his one shot power probably has a better time of it against a lightweight version say of Meldrick Taylor. Would be getting outboxed before eventually (and inevitably) dropping the hammer.

There's not much between these guys. I'm picking Alexis because of his one-punch kayo power.

Whilst Id never pick Fernandez to beat Chavez...if you put Chavez in a similar position moving up to fight in a 10 rounder against a guy who has been consistently fighting at higher weights for his entire career...with the style of Vilomar.. I dont think he looks great either.

Chavez is probably better equipped to deal with him but I cant see a blow out of a man who was a constant nuisance for 13 rounds against a prime Duran.

Vilomar would do a better job against Chavez than what Camacho did.

So close... I went for JCC purely for his undefeated streak and overall record. Thats just the unbelievable.

Chavez's "undefeated" is partly revisionist history considering his early DQ loss.

    Whoops:patsch

I was thinking that AA lost to someone else at 126 and then beat Marcel for the title. No damn wonder I couldn't remember who he lost that first title fight to:patsch

    Lost to Marcel
    Beat Olivares.

    now I got it:nut

Arguello and Fernandez did meet a second time, and Alexis won. Both were past their best by then, but AA did avenge that particular loss.

I love both guys but have to pick Chavez. Had they fought both of them at their best I think Chavez would have stopped Arguello late. Chavez is an all time great at Junior Lightweight, Lightweight and Junior Welterweight. Who will ever forget the dramatic stoppage of the undefeated Meldrick Taylor a real speedster and the slow destruction of "El Chapo" Edwin Rosario. Had Arguello been able to beat Pyror then we might have to reevaluate this but no doubt these are 2 genuine all time greats.

Arguello was stopped in a great fight and then stopped again a year later with Pryor in what was nearer to his prime than Chavez was when he was stopped. Not that being stopped means everything, but Pryor sort of controlled Arguello in a way he never could have controlled Chavez.
