ATG: Who Ranks Higher? Erik Morales or Tito Trinidad?

It's very close, for the record though at the time both were in their prime everyone rated Trinidad over Morales.

Trinidad: DLH, Whitaker, Carr, Vargas, Joppy, Reid, Carr, Campas, Camacho, Blocker, Pendleton

Morales: Pacman, MAB, Jones, Chavez, Hernandez, McColough, Kelly, In Jin Chi, Zaragoza, Ayala

Comment: Pacman is the best win but Trinidad has more primed top contenders/champions, both the MAB/DLH were equally controversial

Controversal wins:

Trinidad: DLH
Morales: MAB, Espadas


Losses

Trinidad: Winky, Hopkins
Morales: Barrerax2, Pacmanx2, Raheemx1

Dominance

Trinidad is clearly more dominant, losing less, with less controversial wins. Both have fights where they've both been dominated

Longevity

Trinidad: Champion from 93-01 (8years)
Morales: Champion for 97-04 (7years)

Overall

Trinidad but it's very close and it's splitting hairs pretty much

Erik Morales was the more complete, more skilled & greater fighter.

Being robbed vs Diaz for the LW title + his performance vs Maidana at 140 where he should have won the interim title cancel out the low quality of Cano in Morales winning his 4th title IMO.

Erik only got was he was owed & already should have had... the honour of being Mexico`s first 4 weight champ.

Barrera & Espadas never beat Morales, they did better than expected beforehand & the fights were very very close, its ridiculous to say they both beat Morales, close fights are not robberies.

Cano was not the best opponent, I never claimed he was... but Maidana was a recent 140lb champ & without question a top fighter at 140 & Morales proved AT LEAST his equal... Erik was robbed of his 4th title vs Diaz as well a few years back so things evened out... I have as much reason to call Morales a 5 weight champ in reality as you have to call him a 3 weight champ in reality, no ?

Why not call Barrera a 2 weight champ since he was only WBO champion at 122 lbs ?

Trinidad is a top ATG at 147.

But overall Morales is higher.

 

Barrera and Espadas were both robbed against Morales, you have no credibility when it comes to Morales. And no Morales did not prove to be Maidana's equal because he lost more than 6rounds giving away the early rounds and going even in the latter rounds. Maidana isn't a real champion either.

For the record Morales certainly wasn't a real champion at FW and arguably wasn't at SFW either.
