Even though Floyd's career was longer, he's undefeated and he has more good wins, Ray has three wins (Duran, Hearns, Leonard) better than any of Mayweather's. In my book, that puts Leonard higher on the ATG list than Mayweather.
He did beat Hagler. Hagler was so upset with it that he retired. Personally, I had it draw when I watched it live.
Sugar Ray beat Hagler, Hearns, and Duran. Floyd beat an injured Pacquiao four years past prime, an ancient De La Hoya, and a green Canelo.
Think it’s pretty close but legacy for me is defined by your biggest fights and SRL competed in a much tougher era and fought the likes of Duran, Hagler, and Hearns. Wins over those guys trump beating a lot of solid ‘champions’ (there were far more in Floyd’s era due to the silly number of belts that now exist). Floyd has some great wins against Maidana, Pacquaio, Dela Hoya and a few others. However these don’t rank as high and I think he would have lost a few in SRL’s era. Still, I think Mayweather would have lots of success in any era of boxing, he’s a great fighter. SRL takes this one for me.
