Facts are facts or are you blind. Big Lennox should had been able to stop Holy in one of those fights but he couldnt do it. He is beneath Holy.
As a Heavyweight Lewis has the edge. Not only because his resume is slightly better but he clearly defeated Holyfield twice. If you include Evanders accomplishments at Cruiserweight then its damn close, I cant decide who has the overall better legacy.
I'll start with Bowe-he binned the belt right?Something you made reference to above.Tyson-when did you consider him as being at the top of his game?I don't think its entirely fair to say that LL didn't face him in his prime-LL arrived at world level too late for that and then there was the step aside deal at a time when he was closer to his prime than he was when they actually did meet.
I have Holyfield in my all time top 50 pound for pound. Lewis doesn't make it. Lewis was a better HW, and that is reflected in my HW rankings.
Why? Holyfield had a great chin, was a superb ring general and inflicted his plan upon Lewis with absolute mastery. I don't think expecting Lewis to "neccesarily" stop Holyfield is sensible at all, given their relative styles.
Bowe did vacate the title, just like LL himself did. So, how can you hold it against Bowe but give Lewis a pass for doing it 3 times? Tyson in the 90's would have been much better than Tyson 2002... wouldn't you agree? Lewis turned down 13.5 million to fight him, and took the step aside money instead. Had Lewis took that fight and won, beat Tyson in the rematch... then Holyfield would have come next.. Bowe, ect.... Lewis would have forced the division to go through him. Instead, he took the step aside cash and played in the shadows until the elite fighters of his generation were burnt out.
I don't think you can be too hard on Lewis for taking step-aside money. I am dissappointed he didn't take the fight too, but the lion's share of the blame surely lies with the guy offering money for nothng (Tyson) rather than the guy accepting money for nothing (Lewis).
how can lewis be faulted for the time he fought alot of these fighters.... alot of these fighters didnt even wanna face lennox lewis in his prime.. and lennox was out of his prime when he beat up alot of these guys like tyson, vitali etc... check the books... mike tyson's camp ducked lennox lewis earlier on.... bowe threw vacated his belt on national tv... threw belt in garbage and refused to face lewis.... check your history... too bad most of you guys were only watching tyson fights back then
Bowe called LL out and then vacated the title in that fashion I agree and I did say that the Tyson that fought Seldon was a better version than the one in 2002 that fought Lewis. He can't really be blamed for taking the step aside cash-I'm sure you and I would have done the same thing in that same situation
Holyfield beat Prime Bowe, Prime Moorer, Foreman, Holmes, A much closer to prime Tyson TWICE. He also beat Mercer a year earlier, and by a more clear margin. He also knocked out Buster Douglas who was the Undisputed Champion after Douglas had knocked out the unbeatable Mike Tyson. As well as guys such as Michael Dokes, Pinklon Thomas, John Ruiz, Hasim Rahman, Bert Cooper, Alex Stewart, Vaughn Bean, ect... How on earth is Lewis' Heavyweight resume better than Holyfield's? Not only did Holyfield fight better opposition, he did so when those fighters were at or near the top of their game.
overall holy prob edges it but anyone sayin evander was the better heavy is crazy. you can give the whole primes debate its full airing but lewis haevy reign was far superior and he beat holy clearly at least once
Lewis didn't become recognized Champ until he beat Holyfield in their second fight. Explain to me what was so great about Lewis' title reign after that point.:think
