comon now its holyfield by a fair margin this should not be close.

Lewis was a better heavyweight but he was also much, much bigger than Holyfield.

Holyfield is up there with RJJ

    This one is easy.

    As a heavyweight: Lewis
    Pound for Pound: Holyfield

I'm a massive Lewis fan and as a heavyweight Lewis was clearly superior in my opinion. But what you have to take into account is Holyfield's resume at cruiser and the fact that as a heavyweight he had stepped up from cruiser (starting his career as a LH in fact) and was generally fighting guys who had a natural size and strength advantage over him. Lewis on the other hand was a huge heavyweight and generally had the natural size and stregth advantage over his opponents.

I think it's close and would edge with Lewis but i think that Holyfield was the slightly better boxer.

Clearly Holy. LL is an ATG, too. But Holy was the best of his era. I don't remember Lewis jumping at the chance to get Holy in his prime. No, he waited around until Evander was 37 and 38 for the rematch (I though he won the rematch).

Holyfield fought everyone who would fight him, beat 16 world champions (or so) and won the heavyweight crown 4 times.

So I guess you have Marciano over Louis. Heck, I guess you have Glen Johnson over Roy Jones.

Holyfield would rank higher as an ATG but just as a heavy Lewis comes in ahead of him.

Evander Holyfield. I can see there are a lot of Brits on this board.

I very much doubt he was outweighed by a great deal in any of his cruiser fights.

And the whole point of the heavyweight division is that weight is irrelevant. Everybody competes in an open weightclass. It doesn't matter that he was smaller, that was his choice to fight at that weight. A heavyweight, is a heavyweight. There are no bonus points for being smaller.

He was practically the same weight as Tyson when they met. And Moorer.

Does that mean that none of Vitlays or Wlads wins count, because they were bigger than their opponent??

Yep, he never lost a title fight by KO. But he lost plenty by decision.

Surely that proves that Lewis only losing TWICE - BOTH times in title fights, and both by KO, proves it was impossible to outbox Lewis? That you had to separate him from his senses to beat him? That he was unoutboxable?

But you could KO or outbox Holy!
He's been on the canvas more than Lewis, KO'd the same amount of times, (and James Toney would never, ever, ever, have Ko'd Lewis at any age), and outboxed as well.

So there are a few ways to beat Holy. But if you don't KO Lewis, you're going to lose. And remember, it's only happened twice.

See, it's easy to twist anything your way.

 I remember the last time this kind of thread was brought up. Holy hell it got heated.

Anyway, I say Holyfield in a p4p sense, and as a heavyweight he also ranks above Lewis in my book.

At HW, Lewis by a close margin.

    P4P, Holyfield clearly.
