Morales. If you actually look at wins JMM's legacy is not all it is talked up to be. His best wins are an old Barrera and Casamayor. He has losses to Norwood and John.

    Morales takes this pretty easy

Those losses are bull****, if you've ever cared to watch them.

Marquez arguably beat (and at the very least, matched) the most developed version of Pacquiao the 3 Mexicans of the Fab 4 had ever faced. He beat a past-it but clearly resilient Barrera in a great fight, and while Casamayor was past it, he was beating up quicker, thicker, younger top divisional contenders and has been lightweight king for years now well past his physical prime. Wins over Salido, Juarez, Peden, Jaca, Gainer, and what should have been victories against Norwood and John, along with that draw against Pacquiao altogether racks up a good resume. Add Barrera, Pacquiao 2, and his undefeated reign at lightweight, and you have a guy who makes up for his late start with longevity and consistency. He's also one of the few Mexicans to win 3 championships in 3 different weight classes. His legacy is no joke.

I'd put them at about even, at the moment.

    Better boxer: Marquez, imo.
Better H2H package, altogether: I hesitate to call it either way, damn close, I think.
Higher historical place: It's most definitely Morales. And I prefer Marquez, as a fan. So, no bias backing that view at all. It simply is what it is. Marquez's career was a misadventure in attempting opportunism. He got it backwards. He's just as good but he'll never go down in history the same way because of it, unless he pulls off the near-impossible, in his next bout.

atm marquez slightly but it's that close it can all change if morales beats maidana (again)

when I consider fighters I consider how I saw the fights that took place.

some close fights I disagreed with concerning these two

    Morales W12 D.Diaz (114-113)

    Morales W12 Maidana (115-113)

    marquez W12 john (114-112)

    marquez W12 norwood (116-110)

    marquez L12 pac 1 (112-113)

some close fights I did agree with

    morales W12 mab1 (114-113)

    jmm W12 mab (116-111)

    pac W12 jmm2 (114-113)

I think marquez is clearly the greater skilled fighter. whilst he can't compete with morales top victories I think the depth is spread nicely between them and marquez has been much more consistent over a longer period of time.

for me it comes down to who leaves the greater legacy. atm morales is seen as a 4 weight champ by some but in reality it just isn't the case. if khan and bradley move up and morales beats maidana then i could go along with the claim. he was never realy the best featherweight in the world neither. marquez is seen as a 3 weight champ but again he was never really the best sfw neither. however traditionally speaking its' better to be a FW-LW champ than to be a SBW-SFW champ.

very close and either can be argued which is why it's probably better to see how their careers finish.

Morales. JMM's strongest point is that he's the one fighter who has proven that he has Pac figured. Makes him a great fighter, but that alone cannot overshadow what Morales has done. It's just too bad they never fought.

Marquez lacks big wins on his resume. Whilst Morales has Barrera and Pacquiao as two of his best win, Marquez has Juan Diaz and Katsidis unless you want to give him credit for fighting close to shot versions of Casamayor and Barrera. In the end it just doesn't add up, you could argue JMM is just as skilled if not more skilled then Morales but unless JMM finishes his career very strongly I just don't see how people can rate him ahead of Morales or Barrera in any ATG list.

with em and jmm I'd rather see how their careers end up.
