Gomez, pretty easily. Morales was a fun fighter, but I did not see what all the fuss was about. He always seemed to come across initially as a media creation, but then a poor man's Barrera. Gomez at 122 was a class act, the finest the division ever saw, shame he bottled the fight that could of taken him to Valhalla........
Morales, easily. Never understood all this love for Gomez, he wasn't as skillful or clever as Erik from all I've seen of both.
I rate Barrera above both, but Morales above Gomez. I don't rate Gomez's ability level that highly. The best 2 fighters he faced in his prime in Sanchez and Nelson dominated and stopped him, and it wasn't because he was too small it was because he wasn't good enough. Sanchez was the best ever at FW for me, but if Gomez was on the level of Morales/Barrera he would have put up a better fight at his best, if he was as good as Morales/Barrera he beats Nelson. He wasn't
Which is why nobody takes anything you say seriously when it comes to the actual ability of the fighters. You're great at copy and pasting historical info though.:thumbsup
You sound like me a while ago when I had not seen much of Gomez at 122 and I was basing my opinion of him a lot on the Pintor fight (which is one of my favourites) and a lot of his later fights like the Sanchez and Lockridge fights. Basically what avaiblabe on youtube...But after getting a few more of his prime fights on DVD, I was converted. Gomez at 122 in his prime was in a word.. superb. Technically excellent with physical tools that justified his moniker. He is better then Erik and would have brutalized him, even though Erik wouldnt embarrass himself with his ring smarts and durability. I dont even think that they are even that close in a H2H sense. Erik's p4p exploits bring him pretty far up the foodchain but if he ever fought Wilfredo, would have been a bloodbath in the end.
I've seen him vs Davilla, Kyun Yum, Kobayashi, Zarate, Lockridge, Salazar and Sanchez. Like I said, don't see him being that skillful or clever. Same with Alexis Arguello, for that matter, where everyone too is in love with him, and I don't see him being that special.
