if history is looked at Hearns comes out ahead big time. Pac is just not the level of Tommy Hearns yet. Maybe when he fights Mosley and Mayweather then he will match Hearns. If he can beat them. Pac has not beaten the active champs like Hearns did. Hatton was manufactured the last year to fight Pac.

the thread is good, but the comparison to Hearns is premature. Pac really is not yet at that level where you can compare him to Hearns and all the superfights. The timing of the thread will obviously favor Pac since Pac is fighting now and boxing message boards are frequented by people who are younger and want to talk about current events, so Pac is the fighter who is current.

You made the poll Acero, but the way you defend Pac it sounds like you made it to favor of Pac and not for an objective opinion. You have to try and make polls objective otherwise it looks like you are doing it to build up a fighter. Pac is good but in no way does he compare to Hearns. Hearns is iconic and we still talk about him now 18 years after his last great win against Virgil Hill, which was on June 3, 1991. If Pac retired now will people talk about him in 18 years? I doubt as much as we talk about Hearns. Say another good fighter comes along in the year 2037 -say his name is The bodysnatcher Smith ( I just made that up obviously). There will be a thread started which says who is greater The bodysnatcher Smith or Manny Pac.? The fact that you put Pac's name first shows where you are directing it. I do not mind polls, but when people make them to favor someone then I think that is the most pure form or nuthugging.

It is directed for Pac to come out ahead. Anyone who was old enough in the 1980's and saw Hearns fight knows Hearns is more iconic. Now people nuthug the current fights and fighters like Pac or Mayweather, so this is an attempt to put Manny ahead of a great fighter like Hearns. If Manny retired now in no way would he have the legacy of Hearns and no way he is remembered the way Hearns is 20 years after he fights. The fact we all talk about Hearns shows how iconic he is. I am not sure why nuthugging is so prevalent now. I guess it always was and the internet just makes it worse. I will say this at least Pac fans can say he is the best fighter now, Mayweather fans can say it but his record does not show that.

The joke is how the people who voted in this poll do not know boxing history.

10 years after Pac retires and Floyd retires, they can make a poll and ask who is greater? Thomas Hearns-Manny Pac or Floyd Mayweather? 80 percent will say Thomas Hearns. On these boards you have these young guys who have hero worship who do not know history who want to construct history. Objectivity does not have anything to do with who you want to be a great fighter. Manny beating a one dimensional guys like Hatton has to be seen for what it is. Beating Oscar was significant because Oscar was proven to be washed up and now he does not waste our PPV money. I am not sure you can turn either of those wins into a win like Leonard had with Hagler.

Exactly it's way too early because Pac is still active and he could lose his next fights or get knocked out again and this will hurt his legacy so we have to wait and see.

Floyd and Pacman are in the same boat. The next few fights will determine where they belong in the ATG list. Pacman is higher than Floyd, but neither fighter is as great as Hearns.

Yup, and the opening poster and the majority of the people who have posted in it have probably been following boxing for maximum 5 years.
