I would compare arguello to a taller Rafael Marquez.

Way to compare a recently dead guy to manny pacquiao. you should be shot.

I never knew how really underrated Alexis Arguello was on the general forum? Manny being a clearly better fighter than The Explosive Thin Man? I don't think so.

Alexis became a three-weight world champion when the belts still meant something, and holds wins over Olivares, Limon, Chacon, Edwards, Kobayashi, Escalera, etc. He is arguably the greatest puncher of all time when factoring in not only his raw power but his perfect technique. Practically all of his signature wins came by knockout. All of that achieved when 15 rounds was the standard.

In a H2H sense, just add more power and height to Juan Manuel Marquez, as well as making him even more textbook and his straight right hand even longer. That would be Alexis Arguello.

aint like any1's slapping him across the face, theres nothing wrong with asking who's the greater fighter of 2 ATGs

people here are a little too sensitive sometimes, but uhh...back to the question, Pacman clearly has accomplished more, i dont see much of an argument for Arguello being greater then Pacman

asero is opening his daily "PacMan is ATG best" threads with obviously predictable Pro-Pac polls. He always choses fighters who rank lower than Pac so Manny can win the poll. Now AA is dead, it's another opportunity in his million threads to make PacMan look good - over an ATG's fresh body. :-(

I think in three of the weight classes that both Alexis and Pacquiao delved in, Arguello would rank higher all time. In fact, Alexis should be in the top 5 for Featherweight, arguably number 1 at Super Featherweight, and certainly a top 10 entrant for Lightweight. He got sufficient work done in every weight class he stepped into, not even ruling out 140lb, where he gave a beast in Peak Pryor his toughest fight despite being near the end of his career himself.

Defending his titles at 126lb 4 times, whereas Manny Pacquiao only had one notable win as a Featherweight.

Alexis never lost a fight at 130lb, making 8 title defences, whereas Pacquiao made less title defences and lost at the weight.

Pacquiao has one fight at Lightweight against sub par opposition, whereas Alexis again stepped up a weight class won the title in Watt's backyard, and then defended it 4 times.

There is not only a case for Arguello being higher than Manny, but I think he should be. Not by a huge margin, by Alexis was a multi-divisional title at a time when it was a rarity. He defended each of his titles multiple times, and was undefeated as a Super Featherweight.

BigBone you're a serious crybaby. Talking about Arguello in an ATG discussion is an honour to the man and his career and not disrespectful at all.
