bigbone is just pissed cause no matter how darchinyan does, people will still remember him being KTFO by some guy named donaire... so hes just taking it out on us and the *******s in gen lol
There is a solution to this and one which would benefit the majority of members here at ESB. Ban all *******s. They ARE NOT boxing fans.
Right now, I`ll say Alexis Arguello should be higher, its not a sympathy vote because Alexis has died, Ive always rated the man extremely high, Pac is only a couple of big wins away from catching him but he`s still behind. Arguello was a legitimate 3 weight champ in an era with less titles & would have easily been the 1st 4 weight champ if he fought any champ other than Pryor but he was old school & says that would be like a slap in the face to all the greats that tried before him & failed back when you HAD to face the best to become champion because there only was one champion. Throw in that he was likely the best ever 130 lber & I think he is ahead of Manny at the moment. :good
i agree that arguello at 130 is not 50-50. but you have a history of underrating pac bigtime bill. :good
That history being all of Hoya & Hatton with the Hoya pick being my only confident one. Only other times I picked against Pac was the 1st Morales & Barrera fights, every other Pac fight, I went with Pac. :good
After reading thru the entire thread, I noticed Selfkill, Bladerunner & Dinamita hit the nail on the head regarding Pac-Alexis, I agree completely. Regarding every other matter spoken of, Selfkill`s posts were almost flawless IMO, I agreed with just about everything he said.
Why condemn Bill Butcher for underestimating a fighter who has been underestimated by every sports writer who ever covered Boxing since 2003?
Without doubt, I find it hard to imagine how anyone can GENUINELY see it any other way, we`re not talking achievements or who`s more exciting here, we`re talking who is the better fighter.... Mayweather without any doubt at all must be the answer, I take nothing from Manny, he`s a teriffic fighter but Mayweather is the best in the world bar none. :good
i understand when it was 2003 but it's already 2009. pac had more than proven almost everybody wrong (except for the floyd fans). oops, i see, bill would still not be convinced of pac's greatness unless he beats floyd himself.
DINAMITA will find a way to disagree with this, and he is entitled to his opinion like the rest of us, but I think Mayweather is bad match-up for Manny. Those who justify Pacquiao being greater because he made shorter work of Hatton are ridiculous. Is Hearns a greater fighter than Leonard because he knocked Duran spark out when Leonard had three tries and failed? Of course not. The fight game is all based on styles. I think Mayweather has the defensive capabilities to neutralize Manny's offense to such a degree that it will be clear that throughout the 12 rounds it would be Floyd landing the cleaner and more effective blows. I've not seen any evidence of Pacquiao having a better chin than most Welterweights, so I also think he is in danger of getting stopped if he fought Floyd.
and no it would not be by brutal ko. pac is much greater than navarette, chacon, limon and edwards just to be ko'ed at 130 even at 15 rounds. pac has tremendous stamina and he would give arguello fits at 130 head to head.
Oscar was justified as being the favorite among Boxing fans. Truth be told. the *******s did not get their prediction right because they dissected the match-up any better than Sweet Pea or DINAMITA did, they got it right because their hero just happens to be an exceptional talent, one who'd they would never doubt in any fight, even at Middleweight. I can also see why Hatton would be favourite among some people, and I favored him. Hatton was the natural 140lb, he appeared to be the physically stronger than the two, and Pacquiao had shown zero evidence up to that point of carrying his power up from 130lb. It took him many rounds to knock Diaz out, after throwing the kitchen sink at him the whole night. Miguel Cotto is more comfortable around Welterweight, or at least should be because of his history there. He is also a fantastic talent in his own right, and like I've said before, we've still not seen any evidence of Manny having the punch resistance required to beat someone of Cotto's size and calibre. You act as if picking against Manny is some kind of character flaw.
