Fernando Vargas was infintely better in every way to Robin Reid.

Robin Reid before he fought Calzaghe had a MD against HEnry Wharton, and SD against Hacine Cherifi, lost a UD to Thulani Malinga, then right after losing a close fight to Cokezaghe he lost to Silvio Branco.

So from 1997-2000 he went 2-3. Yep great fighter. Severely underrated loser.

But based on actual records he doesn't actually have wins over Taylor and Vargas, so that leaves us with a win over a badly faded Quartey and to be honest i'm not sure who to put there as a 5th.

    So we have

    Tito (past it)
Mosley 1 (above Mosleys most effective weight of 147lbs)
    Mosley 2 (see above)
    Quartey (badly faded)

    Does it? better then;

Hopkins (old but still highly capable add to that he's a possible top 40/30 ATG)
    Kessler (prime)
Eubank (past it but not shot)
    Reid (prime)
Lacy (obiously was a hypjob but everyone seemed to think he'd eat Calzaghe up before the fight but what we got was a one sided ****)

As good as Winky was technically you can't compare it to Calzaghe's achievements at SMW he is IMO the best SMW of all time, now i'm not saying he's the best fighter to fight at 168lbs but in terms of achievements and longevity Calzaghe is superior to Winky.

As i've said before IMO you can hardly call the version of Trinidad that Winky beat 'good'. And anything good Mosley has done has been at 147lbs (not including his LW stint) at 154lbs what we saw was a slower less effective Mosley I was much more impressed with Forrest's wins over Mosley then I was with Wright's.

    :deal we have a winner.

Winky was also a candidate for p4p top at a time, ranging from 1-3 in a lot of polls. Don't believe Calzaghe can claim to that either.

Winky > Calzaghe no matter how you slice it.

i enjoy how everyone rips one guy and sticks up for the other. They were both damn good. I would pick joe but you never know what would happen.

    Jesus Christ.

Now it's hilarious to list two different wins as... two wins within a top five wins. :rofl

The level of stupidity on this forum is quite awesome to observe sometimes.

Fair enough, I respect your opinion, but I disagree completely. By my cards, Winky took Vargas's zero at 154 and took Taylor's zero at 160. Add that to the truly superb dominating performances against good versions of two HOF lock fighters, and this debate isn't close in my eyes. :good

Obviously the only way to settle this is to petition them both to come out of retirement and go head to head in a shoe-in FOTY.

And its obvious who would win that fight, a certain Mr Joe Calzaghe by a landslide.

MW is right. Fernando Vargas at his best was in a completely different class to Robin Reid. To a mind untainted by crippling bias, this should be obvious.

    Vargas lost his title to:

The difference in class levels between these two fighters is patently obvious. :rofl

And Winky never belonged over 160 soooo...

Not sure what point you're trying to make. Cause it's failing.
