I don't think I'd have rated him any higher had he retired after fighting John Ruiz. His win column would have been even less impressive, given that Antonio Tarver would go on to be the most accomplished and best Light Heavyweight he'd defeat in his career. The majority of his reign was spent beating on over-matched opponents, but the division was pretty dire at the time. Not necessarily Jones fault. I haven't penalized his career at all as a result of his losses to Johnson, Calzaghe, and Green. The man is a shot fighter, has been for a number of years, and the majority of the All-Time Greats had some very low moments nearing the end of their careers. That's typically been the way. I tend to rank and judge fighters based on their victories and accomplishments, and try not to put to much emphasis on the defeats. Great fighters lose.
I rate Jones higher. I might rethink it if Hopkins has a big win left in him. Probably still have Jones higher at that. Both are in my top 50.
Hopkins for me. Talent is a different story. Jones is a 10 talent an Hopkins a 7, but Hopkins beat better guys and took on tougher challenges. Jones ducked guys for years.
