Monzon is the essence of championship fighting. It is not something that can be distilled down into a highlight package, but it is a joy to watch for the experienced observer.

I don't even think it's a 'highlight package' thing. He is a championship fighter no doubt but so were Sanchez and Arguello and yet their's some immediacy in getting their style over.

I am sad to say the first fight of Monzon's I got my hands on was.........

    The second Griffith fight :-(

From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I totally get what Synth is saying. I too get that Monzon is great, but it's frankly a bit difficult to back a fighter whose style revolves around the complete avoidance of risk. It may make him a great fighter. I don't think anyone here could intelligently argue against that, but he's got to be one of the most boring, least inspiring fighters to watch.

Marciano can't truly be appreciated on film. Until a fighter shared 20-feet with him, and was hit everyplace but the soles of his feet, he must have looked like a clumsy journeyman.

Watched the last 3 quarters of it last night mate, forgot to tell you.

Very good fight, Rose in this fight reminded me stylewise of Robinson when he fought Lamotta. I think Harada was a little more competitive vs Rose than Jake was vs SRR but it looked to me as if Rose controlled the fight with his much superior jab, footwork & accuracy in general, Harada looks tough as **** & just kept coming but that was a Rose victory (I`m assuming, it cut off before the verdict was announced.)

    :good

Doesn`t matter, its just personal opinion.

I can see & even appreciate how effective Monzon is, he`s incredibly accurate & that doesn`t change from round 1-15 but I feel his size & strength at MW more so than his outright ability is the main reason for his dominance. I could see someone like Robinson boxing the **** out of him because he could take what Monzon could dish out, has the gas tank & will to still be strong in rounds 12-15 & has tremendous speed.

Monzon is quite slow as it is, he might even look stuck in the mud vs a true thoroughbred like Ray Robinson, Monzon looks flawed & beatable to me, he just never fought anyone that has the attributes combined with talent to get it done IMO.

Wills ain't fair because all we have is a used up version of him to look at.

This will irk some but Jeanette and McVea both look like **** on film. You really have to adjust for the time, their having to learn on the job and such. Heroes and Greats they were. Just doesn't translate in a modern sense to film.
