An interesting read mate, like all lists it has some things the reader likes, some he doesn't. Personally, I like the high placings given to Ezzard Charles, Kid Gavilan and Luis Manuel Rodriguez, three amazing fighters who are usually lowballed on such lists. The flip side, which I think may be on account of adhering to a mathematical system (including the especially odd category of 'Character') rather than just calling it on your own opinions, is that there are some very strange placings indeed. Pep above Armstrong? I can't go along with that one myself. Hagler over Walker and Chavez over Monzon? The same. And Roy Jones so many places ahead of Charley Burley and Jimmy McLarnin? A strong list, but some bum notes IMO, but then, what list doesn't? I know I couldn't do better.
Cheers Pop. I'm guessing you're probably thinking I've placed to much of an emphasis on dominance in this list, and not enough on resume, because all the criticisms you make above regard dominant fighters with lesser resumes being ranked above more tested and proven commodities. A fair enough criticism and one that I acknowledge myself as a draw back in my list.
Outstanding effort Sweet Scientists. It must have taken you hours to organize, and calculate the data. Such lists require constant tweaking. I once came up with an all time top 100 heavyweight list, with 11+ categories in excel format. The only part I disagree with is Harold Johnson at #53 and Miguel Canto at #54. I'd move both guys way down the list.
Nice list :good You have explained your ranking criterior for the 129 boxers in your list, but how did you arrive at the 129 in the first place ? All the usual suspects seem to be there, except Pancho Villa, apologies if I missed him.
:good I had made a list before, not really based on any solid criteria, but just on who I intuitively thought was great. I used that list to pick out most of the names here, and added a few that I thought were in the vicinity of that list. Pancho Villa isn't on the list, but perhaps he should be. I haven't thought about evaluating him, but he would be close to inclusion at the very least, if not actually on the list, if I did evaluate him. A few others that I've thought about including, but which aren't there, are the likes of Kid Lavigne and Jack McAuliffe. Those are just two, but there are plenty of fighters on the periphery.
