I wanted to started a thread for this because an athlete getting over a physical disadvantage or disadvantages is always interesting to me I want some lesser known answers but Im ok with some well recognized ones.
Thomas Hearns could be frail at times. I’m not sure it was so much his chin as his legs. Wilfred Benitez did have an at-times shaky chin … but it was so hard to hit til he degraded it didn’t usually matter. Danny Lopez didn’t even get started til he picked himself off the canvas.
If an atg had a shaky chin its usually not a glass chin, its a rubber chin that can withstand some hits and falters at others, Tommy survives that 5th round onslaught in the 2nd Leonard fight but gets flattened by Barkley with basically one punch.
Most easy ones have been listed, but not this one -- Tyson Fury. Bro has like a 4/10 chin but 10/10 recovery ability.
I'm gonna defend Roy Jones who people often think of as chinny but only first got KO 'd as an 'old' fighter at 34 (for a speed and refexes boxer)... And then declined steeply after. He basically was done at 34. But was only dropped once prior to that. Just because you go go on for 20 years after your prime doesn't mean you were chinny during it
Excellent thread. Generally speaking on this and other forums, the two prominent faults in boxers is “quitting,” regardless of the reason and perceived durability issues. Often spoken in a derisory way by posters. The Joe Grim’s, Chuvalo’s and McCall’s etc are genetically built that way. So why are they more admirable than those that can persevere and win, despite not having “iron chins?”
