You could look at the 80's and say Tyson, the 90's and say RJJ, now and say Loma/AJ.

But between 1900-1970, which fighters had people raving about their athletic abilities?

Sullivan and Jeffries both look out of place for their eras, as physical and athletic specimens.

It is almost as if they should both have come along twenty or thirty years later, but by some hiccup of the timeline they didn't.

It is like Sullivan should have come along around the same time as Jack Johnson, and Jeffries should have been somewhere int the 30s!

William Sheriff was said to have the power of 10 mules and the jauntiness of a cricket in his powerful hams.

I think that he was more ahead of his time technically.

Shortly after Queensbury rules were introduced, it dawned on some fighters, that if they could put their opponent down for ten seconds in the first round, what would happen after that was irrelevant!

Damn near every ATG . Louis had the hanspeed of a Middleweight, Robinson hit like a Lt.Heavy, Marciano, Armstrong, Dempsey could punch non stop for 15tds. ( Could Joshua with all his "pretty muscles and Wilder do that for 15tds? 10rds? Even 5tds?) Not only were those fighters far better on a skill level, but also far better athletically to what they did . And that's fight. Boxing isn't a bench press, or squat competition. Looking good physically dosen't equate to being an ATG. If that were true.Mike Weaver Primo Canera and Ron Lyle would be the Goats.
