inspired by a topic on Deontay Wilder who was regarded as an un-athletic HW who are boxers you would consider as above average athletically? off the top of my head Roy Jones Jr. comes to mind, because of his natural abilities of having quick hand + foot movements **I recognize that boxers are more referred to under how they fight stylistically be it a defensive counter-puncher, or a brawler/slugger type and that athleticism generally isn't talked about too much when describing boxers so discuss. what boxers would you consider to be exceptionally athletic and why.
Usually guys with fast hand speed along with goodpower/reflexes are considerd athletic. Also, have a bodybuilder physice without lifting weights is a give away too Guys like berto, pac, haye, taylor, ect..... Somtimes its not so obvious like james toney (former highschool quarter back) and the klit brothers (those guys are crazy ****ing athletes for their size)
Yeah I don't get it. He's not a terribly good boxer right now but from what I've seen he has really good hand/foot speed and coordination for a guy his size. But I then again people think Valuev is unathletic but he's a 100 times more athletic than any boxer near that size that's ever lived.
On a world class level all most all boxers are good athletes. But you can get by as a HW, because of the lack of big athletes in the division.:bbb
Margarito is someone who jumps at me as unathletic. Pac, PBF & mosley comes off a very athletic. You can tell wether they played basketball, sprinting they are gonna be great.
Jones, Whitaker & Pacquiao are known to be avid basketball players. I think read somewhere that Mosley ran xcountry in highschool.
Mayweather, RJJ, Pac, Martinez, Gamboa, as active fighters I can think of with above average athletic skills.
