As bad as this whole fiasco looks on Povetkin right now, Atlas is right... his guy is simply NOT READY to fight Klitschko in September. Who knows if he ever will be ready?... but the fact is Alexander never should have been put into this position in the first place. It's bad fkn management! So what if the IBF says he's #1? You don't rush a genuine blue-chip HW prospect into an embarassing loss for short term gain. You wait until you belive he has a real shot at winning the title and keeping it for a while. The fact is, Povetkin is considered one of the best HW prospects to come along in some time, with the outstanding amature career and olympic gold medal and all. But he's only had 19 pro fights!!! They should be building this guy up and letting him develop as a pro with at least 25 wins under his belt before going for the title vs a much bigger, more experienced, dominant champion like Wladdy. And ffs,,, if his shot is going to come against either Klitschko, he needs to fight a few tall rangy guys and work with Teddy to develop a style and game plan for getting past the jab, getting inside and doing serious damage in close... Cus D'amato style. "He needs more seasoning" Teddy Atlas
i dont think he will be more ready at any time. look him up. he was floored by Mora in his recent fight. many thought hes already past his best and so do i.
Then Povetkin should not have run his mouth in 2008 when he called out Wlad "I WANT YOU KLITSCHKO" and loudly proclaimed "The next heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin". Povetkin is a complete moron, you call it bad management, but it takes a naive idiot to allow himself such blatantly amateurish self-promotion: This content is protected
Povetkin is just being mismanaged. The guy should be in the ring fighting and getting professional experience under his belt. Instead he sits on the sidelines.
Povetkin isn't ready and would have received "oh, you lost, you're done" treatment from the boxing fans.
Your not getting anywhere unless you take chances, fvck grow some balls, train hard get in the ring and fight hard, so you lose you lose, you have to at least try , or go thru life wondering what might have been... T:dealhat ****ing guy Povetkin needs to take his diapers off and grow a nut sack..
Can't argue with you on that... :good Maybe Sasha is dumb as a post,,, but his handlers are the ones who should be calling the shots on the progression and promotion of his career. Maybe they're all a bunch of idiots... It's starting to look that way. :huh
Like I said... that bus was out front of our rooms at the hotel for fight week for the Thompson fight. They had a loud speaker and kept singing so russian song. Wow how things have changed
First Haye, then Povetkin. I see a pattern here. But at least Povetkin got a smokin' hot babe to be in that poster with him. Looks like Sharon Tate........ I wonder what that model cost him.
I don't see why Povetkin deserves to be insulted. If they need more time then let them have it, no one wants to see him say it was too early and so on when the fight is over with. I'd rather wait and get a good fair fight than more excuses.
Povetkin may have been silly enough to call them out,but his team (well Atlas anyway) know what is best. To maintain his great record and season him up is the best reason to not fight any Klit any time soon. Who on this site would put a guy with Povetkens pedigree into a fight that they really have no faith in his winning the contest?? Atlas is diing his boxer a great service by keeping kid learning and when he is ready he will say so.:deal
It is the chance of lifetime clearly Povetkin has a team around him that dont belive in him.Its a mistake to pull out,if he lost to Wlad so what, they are talking about lack expeirence, what better than fighting the heavyweight champ. At least he would know how much more he needs to learn before trying again or he might win.He aint had many fights but has managed to get a very high rating so he must have something.Pulling out may well ruin his career imo.
That's perfectly fine, as long as you or anyone else can answer these questions I posted a couple days ago. 1. Then why enter the eliminator tournament to begin with 3 years ago? 2. Why did he sign once to fight in December 2008 only to get injured running? Was that a fake injury to get out of the fight you're insinuating? 3. Why didn't he face competition over the past two and a half years that could better prepare for him for his title shot? 4. Why did he even bother going through pre-fight negotiations if he intended to not fight? 5. Why did he ask Wlad he wanted Olympic drug testing? 6. Why did his side go through with a purse bid? 7. Why didn't they cancel prior to the presser announcing the fight officially? 8. Why didn't he call the IBF and said "take away my mandatory challenger status" at some point in the last two and a half years"? 9. If he's not ready to fight now, when will he ever be? After Wlad retires? 10. Since he's not fighting Wlad, who's he going to fight next?
Povetkin is as ready as he's going to be. He has a sizable amateur career and he is too old to wait for many more years.
Great post. I think in a way you gotta respect their realization that Povetkin is simply not yet good enough to be competitive. But at the same time, you gotta wonder why they did all the things you listed, then changed their minds, after? Maybe Atlas is what it took to get Povetkin's team back down to earth. And maybe his experience and *name* is what took control, at long last. But given how critical Teddy has always been of the Klitschko brothers, its downright hilarious, this turn of events. If the brothers are as weak as Teddy seems to think, why avoid them? But I do respect Teddy's honest, even if its been an utter fiasco Wlad has had to go through trying to get Teddy's *30 year old kid* in the ring.
