    1. Good move.

    2. Nope, not at all. You can't teach an old dog new tricks.

    3. Definitely not. Active boxers are always better boxers.

for a 17 fight pro "novice" povetkin is absoloutley excellent , now is nto the time to fight wlad experience is too vast in difference, Alex can only get better if matched correctly

this kid can be a champ just dont feed him to the wolves while so green

I suppose it's a no lose situation for Atlas...if Povetkin wins he looks like a genius, if he loses it'll be "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" and he'll not lose credibility (if he has any)

I wouldn't go as far to say he's a clown though, he's worked with some good fighters and like him or not he does know the game.

Yeah and Rooney would turn up drunk, not much use! About as much use as Floyd senior was to Hatton, the trainer actually showed up late to training!

rooney aint nothing as a trainer except as some sort of excuse for tyson

teddy trained tyson all through the ams he was used by cus as teddys rich father paid everything

teddy dont take **** of his pupils no matter WHO they are . hes good for disipline, excellent trainer, tyson briggs, moorer etc

great experience and this is the right time to get a fresh young HW with good wins but still quite green and not a lot of fites sounds good but dont fight a klitschko just yet theres a big difference between the 2 best HWs and those ranked 3 and lower s hugh difference !!!!

you don't know what you are talking about. Atlas was with Tyson from 1980-1982 a whopping 2 whole years and it was just because Cus did not want to travel to all of the tournaments because of his health. Atlas was basically a baby sitter.

NO. Wlad has a date for Dec 12th. IBF wants Povetkin to fight. thats why It seems foolish to have a tune up fight so close

You have 100+ amateur fights, 17+ odd pro fights then try to change the way you fight.

You forget in the pro ranks people have maybe 2 fights a year which means 10 fights over 5 years. Not much time to adapt really. You truly believe Atlas could turn Pavlik into a technician overnight? Or Margarito? Or turn Mosley into a slugger ala Pavlik/Margarito?

    think! think! think! :tong

How is Povetkin going to keep his mandatory status while fighting a tune up fight? After postponing the fight once due to injury if he takes a tune up fight rather than fight Wlad in September Wlad has every right to demand that the IBF pull Povetkin's right to the mandatory.

i will be very direct...... I don't much care for Teddy or his methods..
I hate the way he demoralised Moorer and Mike Grant by being far too dominant...

But..... Teddy is a very good technician.. and if he doesn't change Alex, and just tweaks his already honed tools , he may be a great asset to Team Povetkin.. If he gels and snaps into place well it may be a huge success.. Teddy is not for everyone and i know from talking to Mike Grant that he ruined his career.. i never liked him for how he made himself into the headliner on national tv when Mike Moorer won the IBF & WBA from Evander and when Moorer faced Bean in Vegas... thinking he was bigger than the championship challenger and champ... ego ruled Teddys head and he needed to realise that he was a trainer and wasn't putting his life on the line in the ring .. or putting his own head on the chopping block.. Teddy has an immense fountain of knowledge and if tapped into properly , Povetkin could become a very clinical champion with the correct guidance........... Teddy could be a great asset .. if he keeps his input down to purely advisory position.....

Not an good idea for Povetkin. I believe it wil not work. Povetkin will leave the US and Atlas and he will be complet disapointed. It is too late to change the style and Atlas is not that good.

Good news: Atlas gives Wlad more motivation, bad news for Povetkin.

Great move by Povetkin to garner the American interest that Teddy Atlas will bring to the eventual fight. The added plugs they will get on FNF every week is huge. The tune up on American soil will also give them a chance to get further into American minds.

Manny Steward vs Teddy Atlas is tits! His Wlad hatred adds a hugely exciting component that would not be there otherwise in the fight.

On his chances of winning....slim to none no matter who he is trained by....unless he spends substantially more for Teddy to train him I suspect he will make more money in the Wlad fight just cause Teddy is on board.

Titty At-l-ASS trained Grant and Kirk Johnson and we all know what happened to them. Atlas is not good trainer, not at all. Cus wanted Kevin Roony to train Tyson and for a very good reason.

    1. Good. I've always liked Atlas and I hope he gels with Povetkin.

    2. Yes, but not much. Povetkin will not change an awful lot by December but a tune will help, no doubt.

    3. Yes, great idea as they can see how much Povetkin has improved and what needs to be ironed out. There is no better place to practice this than in the ring.
