In any other division, yeah! Don't forget this is Heavyweight 2009 style. The biggest bunch of bums since the Marquis of Queensbury rules went into effect. Wlads limitations are hidden by the dismal opposistion. Povetkin might be a fringe contender at 147, but at Heavyweight, it's possible he could beat anyone.
What your definition of a fringe contender? Usually it's a guy outside the top 10.Povetkin is clerly top 10.
Clearly Atlas has the recipe for beating Wlad. Just look at his spot-on predictions! He obviously knows Wlad's style and how to beat him. (sarcasm) :yep
Also all of Teddy's theatrical motivational tactics he likes to use won't work on a Russian like Povetkin. I think this will be a disaster. I know Teddy knows Boxing but the guy is a self serving ***** and only cares about himself.
I can hear it now: Teddy: "Alex. You need to find a home for that right hand. You're just going to have walk through a bad neighborhood to get there." Povetkin: "huh?"
Atlas really isn't a trainer. In the fine words of Emmanuel Steward "a little more coaching and a little less cheer leading." He can't get along with fighters because he doesn't understand that he is not the star and that the people are not coming to see him train they are coming to watch the fighters fight. They all leave him and none of them can get along with him. That is why he is the bitter old man of American boxing criticizing others from his chair at ringside for espn. I don't think he will make much of a difference in Povetkin's career and will more than likely harm it. At best Povetkin will split with him after a couple of fights before teddy can do too much damage to his career.
Atlas gets alot of stick on this site for his predictions, but to be fair to him he really was great at getting a fighter motivated with his speeches. he's great on Fight Night too :yep
The problem is he seems to turn his fight into the Atlas show. Then again im only going by the Moorer debacle so im unsure if he's the same with other fighters.
