Uhhh, yes. In the same fashion that Audley Harrison is an olympic SHW gold medalist that does not possess enough skill to be a champ but he could make a nice gatekeeper . . . maybe. BTW, Povetkin was the SHW Gold meldalist. The HW medalist for that year was the Cuban, Solis . . . who also does not possess enough skill to become champion.
I know Atlas mentioned in his book that Lennox Lewis's people contacted him after the McCall loss. How does everyone think Lennox would've done with Teddy?
Is there a date set for the fight? Good for Povetkin that he's taking an extra initiative to prepare for Wladimir but there's better trainers out there than Atlas.
If Atlas wants to help out Povetkin, all he has to do is predict that Povetkin will lose. The rest will handle itself.
Lets see. Atlas pulled a gun on Tyson, went to Lalonde's door with a gun when Lalonde fired him, had a messy acrimonious split with Moorer, slaps and berates his fighters. At the minimum I see this ending badly no matter what happens with Povetkin. At worst he screws up whatever talent Povetkin has.
Povetkin doesn't have to walk away with anything from Atlas if he doesn't want to, but if he picks up on one more thing that will help him then it was worth it. Teddy's out there just enough to come up with something that might work. Doesn't hurt to get as many professional opinions as possible.
