Johnny Bos used to talk about Chris Eubank winning the 1st round against Mark Breland in the 1984 NY Golden Gloves quarter-final after less than a year training (!), Breland being the best amateur EVER and Eubank 'catching that legendary jab as if catching a ball thrown by a kid' according to Bos, when Breland realised Eubank couldn't punch (yet) he came forward and the referee stopped it in the 2nd, Eubank protesting profusely it shouldn't be stopped. Bos said Eubank refused to shake Teddy's hand after walking out the ring and his mentor 'the great Adonis Torres' told him off. Apparently Eubank told Wilder right before Ortiz II about this experience saying how 'fear' can make the opponents adrenalin and reflexes go into 'another dimension'. Fear he had for his trainer Breland and that Ortiz may have for him. This content is protected This content is protected
I think Costello said something about more kids joining the gym after the fight than after Honeyghan. I suspect more joined after Berbick and Bruno
When it's said Mark Breland was the best amateur ever, believe it he was, that's of any weight and any time. He was something like 110-1 with 90 KO's, beat all the Russians and Cubans in early 80s then Olympic Gold in '84, seen as better than Whitaker etc. PS Let's not forget Spinks was Lineal HW Champ going into the Tyson fight. Unreal what was done.
Love listening to Atlas but you can listen for 20 minutes and forget what on earth he was talking about. Loves to beat around the bush.
I watched the 1hr 10 minute interview and he could have portrayed his thoughts in under 10 mins. And that’s me being generous... seriously!
Ruddock, Biggs or Truth Williams might've been the next great heavyweight if not for Tyson ending them.
@59:32....I feel Atlas was very close to breaking down and sobbing...I think hes still in great denial about his own bullying and belittling of Tyson over the years
There is something a woman said a few weeks ago who lived in Cus's house with them, that Mike would often sleep on the sofa downstairs and when she'd come in late, he'd ask her to tuck him in! No doubt Atlas read that and it was enlightening to him.
Of course Mike's mother in Brownsville was a foul mouthed crackhead prostitute, and he didn't know his dad.
Atlas is just trying to ride the publicity of tysons mooted comeback.Teddy trying to stay relavent. After talking trash for almost 30 years about tyson this great humanitarian wants to be friends.....maybe he needs mike to protect him from sammy gravano
