    I like the list...Chauncy Welliver at #1

Welliver also fought Gold Medalist Odlanier Solis in Germany on the undercard of Vitali's comeback. That night was open scoring and when he was announced being way down to Solis he came out fighting and trying to win. Sam Peter later gave up on his stool.

It would actually be very impressive if Sasha stopped a Welliver who is in much better shape than when he fought Solis. Solis never even put him down and the ref jumped the gun stopping the fight in the 9th round. Short notice fight too.

The other added benefit of fighting Welliver is that he holds WBO and WBC titles. Is top 10 in the WBO rankings. He's the perfect fish for Povetkin to stay right where he wants in position to get a shot when he wants it. They could fight in the US for Chauncy's WBC Title or over in Europe. Heck, I bet Welliver would fight him in Red Square.

Welliver is also very durable...never down a single time in 50+ fights. He is unorthodox and can do a lot of things in the ring. He;s frusterator. The perfect guy to see if Povetkin can demonstrate having that focus that Atlas wants to see.

I think this would be a very exciting fight. Close call on the cards.

In other words he doesn't want his prospect to fight Wlad until Wlad is around 37 years old.

Yes, Atlas should give Povetkin a kick in the ass, and shout GIVE EM HELL! as Wlad comes towards him.

I agree, its almost pathetic for Atlas to criticizm Wlad as he repeatedly does, won't give the guy but a slight bit of credit, at most, and yet his fighters has been pulled out of the mandatory a couple of times now, and still won't be ready for this *weak champion*, Wlad, for four MORE fights.......?????????:blood

Yes, Wlad has that effect on alot of them. :smoke

That big promo banner Povetkin had made has to be one of the most comical things in heavyweight history, given how he has since decided he does NOT want Wlad, and won't for yet another year. Comedy gold.

But it is not Povetkin, himself. Its his handlers who are pulling the stings for him. At least Povetkin is not doing the mouthing, himself, as Haye does, then run when you get the chance to back it up. Povetkin may even, himself, see how he is handled as comical.

I think Cus D'amato would have a ****ing heart attack if he knew Teddy Atlas was telling his fighter to pass on a chance to fight for the heavyweight championship of the world. If Cus had a guy that needed five fights before he was ready - he would have him fight five times in five months and be ready for the championship in six months. Teddy needs to just come out and say that Povetkin cannot beat Wladimir and will therefore never fight him.

I do not get it. It could make sense if Wlad was on the edge of retiring, but the problem is that they are just 3 years apart. If his plan is really to wait until Klitschko retires, he may well be too old himself to achieve anything serious.

Another thing I do not understand is why he is so afraid to lose his "0". He may:
    - either fight bums, getting peanuts and risking a lot in case of a loss
    - or fight Wlad, geting a payday of his life together with a chance of becoming the champion (well, almost) in case of an upset and otherwise risking almost nothing (example: Peter, who kept losing to brothers only to get another chance)
Is there anything I missed there?

If Povetkin takes the 5 fights within the span of a year, than I can say Atlas' plan is sound. This is unlikely to happen though. Either way, saying that Povetkin requires 5 fights to face Wlad is a total capitulation and indicates how little Atlas thinks of where Sasha currently is as a HW. IMO you will see Atlas being dismissed from Povetkin's camp very shortly because of his low confidence in his pupil and his no compromise attitude.

Povetkin never had self-esteem and appears psychologically troubled. How Povetkin's handlers can assume that a psycho nutcase like Teddy Atlas can fix that is beyond me. It is obvious that Atlas is just pouring gasoline on fire here.
