If Atlas wants Povetkin to fight Wlad one day, i think Scott is best choice. He does not have the power of Wlad. But he can move and jab. Risky though, as Scott is maybe the best kept secret in the division.

I actually agree that Povetkin needs more experience. Let him fight Dimitrenko, Grant, or some one who can punch ala Peter, Briggs, McCline, Arreola. Or someone who is a prospect also. Like he did with Chambers, this time with Adamek, Boytsov, Dimitrenko, Solis, or even Haye.
Wow, i just listed so many fights that make sense and that would be very interesting. This just shows that fight in HW can be made its just no one is willing to fight one another. Sad.

Also, as Wlad is in PERFECT physical condition and almost never gets hit, his prime should last a long time. Povetkin is a little soft and DOES get hit. He may well become a shot fighter BEFORE Wlad ever would, despite being 3 years younger. Overall, Povetkin is a joke. Imagine a HW fighter turning down a title shot at ALL........and in particular when he's over 30 on the grounds that he's not "ready". Laughable

Teddy is such an insufferable moron  The Povetkin team are out of their minds even pandering to this fool.

It could be however that Teddy doesnt want Povetkin to fight Wlad at all, and wants instead for Povetkin to be around to pick up the torch after Wlad has left, and if thats the case then this is a good idea (however my prior statement on atlas remains true, for countless other reasons) Except that Povetkin will probably be beat or past it himself by the time Wlad is gone... lol.

Alex has one third the amount of fights that klit has, the experience advantage is wayyy to vast at this point, but Alexander needs to get on it

Shows how crap the division is , the fact that he was ranked no 1 after approx 16 fites

I predict the Atlas-Povetkin relationship won't even last another five fights.
Every fighter Atlas ever had eventually split with him because the relationship between them went sour.
Donny Lalonde, Barry McGuigan, Wilfred Benitez, Michael Moorer, Shannon Briggs, Kirk Johnson, Michael Grant... the list goes on.

None of them put up with him and maybe more importantly, none seemed to show any improvement with him as their trainer.
In fact, one could easily argue that several of them regressed as fighters after bringing in Atlas.
How is that for a track record as a trainer?

I believe it when people say Atlas is very difficult to work with - be it boxers, managers or TV commentators.
Atlas is the Bernard Hopkins of non-boxing personalities in the sport.

Povetkin fought decent opposition in his first 15 fights, including former belt holder Byrd. Then his handlers hoped Wlad was right for the taking but suddenly Wlad kept blowing away one mandatory after another and Povetkin's team got cold feet, thinking he needs more experience.

Than he looked sloppier and sloppier, and they thought "Oh man, he looks worse than we thought, he won't last 6 rounds against Wlad". Well and the rest is history. They took this young man's self esteem and kept telling him he just isn't good enough for Wlad yet. He will never know if he doesn't try.

What if Tyson never got in the ring with Berbick? What if Ali never got in the ring with Liston just to get some more experience and wait a bit longer?

A champion is made by beating the man at the top that is there to be beat. Not by waiting around and getting more experience sparring in the gym.

Why not say I want Wlad when he's 37? Atlas is waiting for Vitali to retire, or for Wlad to slow down.

Even a 37 year old Wlad would dispose of Povetkin without adversity & Atlas knows it.
He's clearly just waiting for Wlad to retire. :deal

1...byrd was shot, hasnt won a meaningful fight since

2...ali wlad tyson all had way more fights, they got the experence first !!!

3...he will lose and get wrecked thsi is obvious

4...as stated he needs to step it up big time, go against others , leading to perhaps an adamek or haye fight, alex can fight respectful opponents not named klitschko,

What sucks is that Povetkin was praised for fighting tough opposition in his first few years as a pro, but since the Chambers win he has done absolutely nothing.

Atlas is right: Povetkins needs a lot more experience before taking on Waldo who would destroy him inside 5 rounds right now.

In his last fight, I saw some improvement as he moved his head more and threw some nice combinations. He needs to get more explosive though he because still too slow.I say in a couple of years Povetkin will be ready. By the way the same thing applies more or less for the Hayemaker.

Atlas said Povetkin will fight 3 consecutive fights at October 30th, December 4th and early 2011.

Scott has called out Povetkin and it makes sense to stage this fight. Povetking should fight Boswell as well and then Kevin Johnson in 2011.
