Absolutely sickening Starts at 17:20 Watch round 5 Clear GGG round HBO commentary "hes fading fast" "Hes gonna have to do something different" "GGG isnt comfortable fighting like this" "training in big bear is a problem" I Mean WOW This content is protected
they made it sound like GGG was dying over here GGG was very comfortable fighting on the back foot here, looking for and finding countering opportunities
you want to see the worst commentary on HBO ever? Watch McCallum vs Curry in 1987. Curry hated Leonard or wanted to sue him, so Leonard had to act like he had nothing against him so they went too far the other way, and Merchant and Tompkins followed. Mike would land beautiful body punches and nothing was mentioned.. I was like what is going on here. Mike was beating up Curry in round 4, and to this day I don't hear anyone say it. It is as though the commentary affected people's perceptions
I didnt get the HBO broadcast but when i saw a replay of the fight i was like holy f@%k! Lol! ONe of the absolute worst announce jobs ive heard in a while. "the story of the fight" stfu Max!
Having watched the 5th back on mute, I honestly scored it for Canelo... wanted GGG to win before the fight and felt he clearly won the first, but I'm a bit puzzled. He landed the better shots, had ring generalship and evaded being hit in that round? Not trolling or winding up as well, I can see the consensus here is GGG won the round (and fight), but I'm just puzzled having seen it twice...
Was a great fight Man so many close rounds Just shady how so few went towards the long reigning champs favor!
I dont mind maxs comments but you have to comment on the good things ggg is doin too roy did awesome explaining both good and bad things. Max made it look like it was a one sided fight. Terrible commentary from him. It was a very close fight the whole fight so you cant just say negative biased commentary. That should only happen if one guy is getting dominated
Absolutely gave no credit to GGG the whole fight other than last 3 rounds when he was battering Canelo in spots. I don't even care if you think Canelo was doing better, but the announcing was so one sided that GGG received almost no acknowledgement whatsoever, even if for some reason they said something good about GGG it was pre-fixed with how Canelo is still winning the story. Pathetic. Especially for punch by punch announcers who are supposed to call the fight how they see it in the moment.
Hell yes it affects ppl's opinions. That's why its called color commentary! But when HBO does it they really go off the deep end and it plays into their whole narrative especially in context of the score cards.
Now compared that to the commentary from the Brits, which was right down the middle and fair to both competitors, they're actually calling what's going on in the ring, as opposed to constructing a false narrative like Roy and Max. This content is protected
another fight was Meldrick Taylor vs. Chavez, which people thought from HBO commentary that Taylor was winning easily. but my friend who was there said he was surprised when he got home and saw the coverage.
