Cletus Seldin got completely out classed and managed to "win" a round.
Didn't even Kellerman say that those were bad cards?

Apparently you missed my breakdown of Canelo Mayweather earlier this year. And apparently I missed your thread on the subject last year? Can you point me to your thread from last year that you're referring to?

If you're looking for "Ironclad" Canelo rounds vs Mayweather, you're not gonna find many. Floyd doesn't lose many rounds, and of the rounds he lost in his career, surely most of them aren't ironclad. So I think having that premise (needing there to be Canelo Ironclad rounds or else it's a Floyd shutout) is sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy in your argument that it was a shutout. You don't need to have a so-called Ironclad round to win rounds. You just need to do better than your opponent in the round.

That said, if you're asking for an Ironclad Canelo round vs Floyd, I'd refer you to the 10th round. I don't see how you can give that Round to Floyd, and I'd be happy to discuss that round in detail.

Most of the rounds Canelo won vs Floyd were rounds that were fairly even. There wasn't a round that Canelo just completely dominated Floyd from start to finish or anything. But when you have so many closely contested rounds, to just give all the close rounds to one fighter is unusual.

After watching the fight several times, what stands out to me is how uncomfortable Floyd was from the opening bell. He was reacting repeatedly to Canelo feints which was very uncharacteristic of Floyd. Floyd was still putting in work, and landing punches, but he was not doing so fluidly or in any kind of rhythm. Canelo wasn't taking full advantage of the opportunities created by his feints as he was being very cautious himself, and it became a real counter punching duel early. I thought Canelo did well enough to win Rounds 2 3 and 4, but there was nothing Ironclad about those rounds. Those are rounds that were closely contested and can be debated like most of the rounds in the fight. Other rounds like 5 6 9 and 12 were relatively close but aside from 12 which Floyd did next to nothing in, it's hard to give those rounds (5 6 & 9) to Canelo. I'd say round 10 was pretty much an Ironclad round for Canelo. Canelo not only fought off the ropes effectively in the round, but he managed to pin Floyd on the ropes that round and landed a barrage of punches on Floyd which caused the crowd to erupt.

That was really the only time that Canelo was able to mount a sustained attack on Floyd. The other rounds, it was mostly punch at a time.

Same here fella. I try to score more objectively my own personal preferences, and it almost all of the time my card is the same as 2 out of the 3 judges.

Case in point almost every here on the RBR last night had it 120-108 but it clearly wasnt.

BJS admitted post fight he took the 9th off. He did nothing in that round and I gave it as a Lemieux round, but it was easy for someone just to count it against him because he lost the last 8. Likewise the 12th was another clearly not for BJS. I gave it even but you could easily see how how it was Lemieux.

So I was left with a 119-110 scorecard. But I could see how you could make it 118-110 as well.

referee: Michael Griffin | Gerardo Martinez 117-111 | Phil Edwards 118-110 | Benoit Roussel 120-108

I tend to give "attaboy" rounds when I'm scoring in order to make up for any possible bias on my own part. I often get quite close to the consensus scores that way.

I don't think he deserved an attaboy round for not pulling a Kovalev.

Yeah I do it myself sometimes to be honest, I remember in Loma-GRJ I kinda gave GRJ 2 or 3 "oh **** if I score this I'll look too biased" rounds and arrived at something like 7-5.

I look forward to tearing your arguments asunder (or - astonishingly - changing my mind, if you have pulled off a miracle of persuasive reasoning here) at a later date when I'm not @ work and have time to sit down and read & dissect them. In the meantime I applaud your courage stepping up to bat.

I'll leave here my RBR description for the tenth round from both my original RBR thread and the rewatch thread. Spectators of this debate are welcome to pull up video of the round and compare my description(s) with shadow111's to determine whose, in their opinion, more closely mirrors the reality of what unfolded.

Shadow is nothing if not enthusiastic. Canelo should pay for having fans like that ...

You can't worry about "how it looks" when scoring. Just do the job.
