Which fighter (A) would go against fighter (B) but in a pattern of bosslike manners? Meaning he has the obsession the compulsiveness and the arrogant audacity to beat him at his own game? All the while (A) coulda fought his fight and beat (B) with his tailor made bonafide easy mode aka using his advantages and tools against the opponent who was handicapped in that department. So instead of coasting to an easy win (styles make fights) which boxer went in there and dominated at a more difficult task, beating "B" at his own game? In this case who is (A) ? And what fight did he do this glorified thing in? Further more, who is a fighter who could fight both an easy way YET take it to his opponent in a more hard working fashion? So instead of cutting corners he put in the more workmanlike performance?
I would say in my recollection it's gotta be jt vs Evander. Jt showed up with his little hands and middleweight punch. Evander was still commander vander, not completely a shell of his former self yet... James said he would meet him in the middle of the ring... Which he did on war in November 4. Vander was dumbfounded to find answers, he used his head as a third weapon, not effective in landing his fists on the elusive James toney. Imagine if toney played it defensively and fought off the ropes, that would be a way to possibly beat Evander with on paper, but James has the confidence to fight in the center of the ring like a true heavyweight. Lemme make this clear, Evander is a brawler so the more you slug with him, you give him chances. Look how easily Larry Donald defeated him with timing, distance and a jab, it was ridiculous. However I don't think James's style of fighting on the outside was ever his thing, but fighting on the inside was playing into Holyfield s strengths.
Erik Morales coming out as a southpaw against Pacquiao seems like the perfect mix of arrogant audacity.
I believe it was my favorite trainer, Jack Hurley, that said something to the effect of letting the other guy fight his fight so he thinks that he is winning until he realizes he lost. If a guy has a good right hand, he wants to throw it, so get him to throw it when you want him to and make him pay for it. Saman Sorjaturong was known for his powerful right hand. Ricardo Lopez baited him into throwing one, countered it with his own right hand and that was the end of their fight.
Think Marciano chops down and out swarms Frazier in a fight of the century style fight. Or in a case of actually happened you have Ali lay on the ropes against George Foreman
What Mike did with that 71” reach of his was amazing. IIRC, even when he had little left he was still able to rock Lennox Lewis back with one of the few jabs he threw.
Fury V Wilder 2 and 3. I always remember Mayweather fighting an arrogant fight against Cotto, essentially staying in Miguel's range and fighting his fight, although I may be misremembering this...? Leonard v Duran in Montreal...
