For other sports it has. I feel that since Turki came into it that Eddie is cashing out. Let's be ear here; Eddie is not great at building a fighter ground up like Frank. I don't think Eddie cares about that anyway as that is more for Frank. If Frank gets on sky again and Eddie walks then we may see a resurgence again.
Anyone have experience with shows in the States? And if so, what are the crowds like there? I've pretty much given up on going to UK shows thanks to already mentioned whoppers on gear left right and centre but still curious about MSG or Vegas some time
Hearn has never hidden, since going to DAZN he's not interested in bringing fighters through - he wants them ready to take big fights quickly. Clearly the undercards would need padded out but they can get fighters from any other promoter needing a slot and then pad out with the likes of Campbell Hatton or some women. And that, coupled with Warren getting a second wind in the aftermath of signing Fury, doing well off BT/TNT and so on - left Frank basically in charge in the UK. It feels like Hearn just wants to build up a DAZN TV business in the US and sack the rest now. The 5v5 might as well have been UK vs US.
Cannot believe I am getting full Peter Crouch from Loose Pea on the British Boxing Forum. Hopefully your 33rd post is informative.
I think you're right. I do a lot of work in boxing as well as other sports so it doesn't affect me but of my friends who are very casual boxing fans none of them talk about Saturday Fight Nights anymore, they'll know if AJ or Fury are fighting but I would bet they haven't watched any boxing on Sky since Matchroom left (other than a PPV maybe). The attendances at UK shows or whether the shows are even in the UK does not bother me one bit , we are getting better fights than we've ever seen which is all that really matters to me. I'm not sitting here thinking I really wanted to go to some of the fights in Saudi for eg , of course I want to watch them on TV so where that is doesn't bother me, I agree sometimes the atmosphere isn't what it could be but if I'm not going to watch it at the venue then that is irrelevant imo.
Went to Joshua v Ruiz in New York. Hard to judge from that what boxing in America is like as there was still 10k Brits there but I went to a baseball game at the Yankees Stadium the day after and it was a totally different crowd to a UK sporting event. Could get a beer whenever you wanted without queuing as there’s far less of a drinking culture at their sporting events. @Sonny1 is your man for US boxing events.
It’s fine mate. No ones getting massively hammered or doing bugle. They are just watching the boxing (and talking crap in their shouting accents). Thoroughly recommend it.
