Really? a STOPPAGE over Arguello? I can understand beating him on a UD or something along those lines, but stopping him? Arguello has more chin and heart than that, lets be reminded that this guy didnt even quite against Pryor at 140, which wasnt his prime weight class. I mean Mayweather didnt take Castillo outta there, or even Corrales in 6. What makes you think he would do the same to Arguello?

I know, I meant the first fight. But he didnt take chico or castillo out under 6, what makes you so confident he could do the same to Arguello at 130? Thats a really bold statement. I agree that May is a great fighter at 130, possibly the GOAT, but that still doesnt justify a 6 round KO over a guy whos considered one of the best at 130 himself.

 

Arguello's weakness was always speed and even Ray Leonard said "Arguello has trouble with ALL boxers"

Arguello has no advantages over May in the matchup from analysis

Speed- Mayweather
Defense- Mayweather
Hand speed (130)- Mayweather
Heart- N/A (It could be Arguello, no one knows because May was never in trouble at that class)
Combination punching- Gotta give it to Mayweather here too
Jab- Mayweather here as well. He utilized his left jab to perfection at this class. He stopped using his jab as he came up in classes and focused more on the right hand. But his left jab was a beauty here.

Floyd would make him miss all night while landing big on his face. I just don't think Arguello can take 6 rounds of Mayweather's punches at 130. The man hit like a truck as well.

Styles make fights.

Corrales was decent/good against boxers, Arguello.. not so much

 

No, ring generalship is just one attribute. It doesn't make Toney or Mayweather not great. But was Toney a particularly static fighter at heavyweight? Definitely. Is it a part of defense? Yes. Is it an attribute Whitaker concretely holds over Mayweather? Yes.

 

This thread had pretty good potential until MVC decided to sabotage it.

Feather fist PBF stops Arguello ? Arguello was a beats at 130..You need to take of the Mayweather knee pads son ... And FYI, Pryor would have ripped PBF`s heart out and buried him. War of attrition ? PBF would NEVER sign to fight a MAN like Pryor ...
