Oh for 70's and HSV 7's 'TV Ringside' - remember the other channels often offered boxing as well.

Can still remember in the 80's when Ellis and Fenech both fought on the same night. Different FTA channels covered the two fights, and you got to see both nothing!

Mate it wasn't just Melbourne. If we didn't get it live, it was on at noon on Saturdays in NSW.
I actually had a stink in the rec room of the "Iron Dampier" in Brisbane over TV Ringside when one of the firemen tried to change the channels.
It was shown right along the eastern seaboard.

Apart from Lionel & Fammo, we got Dunlops fight with Torres. Mundine V Bunny Sterling & if I remember, Fred Etuati for the Comm title. And Carruthers.
We used to get most all the major fights.
I watched Ali fight Jimmy Ellis in the Sutherland pub waiting for my missus to pick me up, long before pay TV.
There were many I missed because I was at sea & out of range, but being an Australian Champion meant something, & given the right passage, still will, if these ****en boneheads ever wake up that is. :fire

I never ever buy to watch boxing or mma. Download everything a few hours after the event and just make sure I don't catch the results on the internet.

People are complete mugs if they purchase ridiculously overpriced boxing ppv in this day and age of computers/internet.

Realistically these sort of fights should only be charged at approx $ 10 or $ 15. Charging upwards of $50 to watch a boxing program for a few hours is absolutely laughable.

You should be thankful that people pay for, and then upload for your viewing pleasure.

    Complete mugs??

I am very grateful and always thank the good people who upload and share.

I have purchased some PPV in the past but quickly got sick of being totally ripped off.

Likewise, I gave up after Tyson started biting ears off. His last half dozen PPV's were not worth the ink.

this is why more and more people who were once willing to pay for ppv are now turning to torrent sites. I ordered the Kali Meehan fight last year and the coverage was terrible. blurry, one fight. bad sound. bad commentary, bad sound and gawd knows what else. after that the only stuff i order now is aussie fight with a known undercard and even than i feel like my wallet was just prison raped.

like pac v Mosley card which is PPV in USA, I will buy that fight.

It's $100 if you want to watch the Geale fight and Pacman's fight live on main event if you've got Austar. Absolutely ridiculous. Why does austar charge $20 more than foxtel for fights ?

what is boxing then. it is people getting punched. that it, you say what like, that it in a nut shell. big companies will not put there name to it. So it doesn't sell advertising to create big money to pay fighters and promoters, which cable tv does, look i love this sport, live and breath it, I'm not great spelling and typing, but i Know boxing and how it works. with TV companies and stuff. free to air boxing is done. In Australia and usa, soon germany and japan will follow, england it just happened with ITV stopping.

What is UFC then? Are they having trouble with attracting advertising?. Havent they just expanded from cable to FTA TV? Is it a problem with how boxing is structured and run or the fact people are punching each other in the head?
